Sphinx Search? Other Suggestions For Searching 2 Database?

Does anybody have any experience with Sphinx Search? (www.sphinxsearch.com) I'm looking for a way to search and yield results from a vBulletin database and WordPress database. I'm open to suggestions and don't care if I use Sphinx or not, I have just heard good things about it.
