sec-k Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I need to have a domain transfered to TCH, but I am not currently the technical contact for the domain. How do I go about initiating the transfer? The domain name is for the company I work for and I have been put in charge of managing the web site. Our current hosting service is charging us $20/month for 50MB of space and 1.5G of transfer, which is a ridiculous price. The current technical contact is the owner of the web hosting service (it is a small operation, probably run out of a basement). Does he need to initiate the transfer himself? Or do I initiate the transfer by purchasing the transfer and entering his contact info as the current technical contact? I personally have two web sites hosted at TCH and have been very pleased with their service. Thanks, Jason Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 You don't have to transfer the domain to have hosting with TotalChoice but you do need to be able to change the name servers at your current registrar. Without having admin access to transfer you probably don't have access to change the name servers. You can initiate a transfer but who ever is the contact will receive an email stating that a transfer has been requested and have to authorize it to take place. Quote
sec-k Posted April 6, 2009 Author Posted April 6, 2009 I guess I don't have to transfer the domain, but since I'm taking the hosting business elsewhere, I'd just assume take the domain name also. So, once the transfer has taken place, will I then be able to edit the contact info or will the current contact still have control? Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Unless they change the domain info so that you can administer it they would have to make the change. Quote
