Uploading Pictures - Http Error?

Hi,

 

I'm trying to upload a picture to my wordpress 2.5.1 blog that I just installed. As per "settings->miscellaneous" the upload directory should be "wp-content/uploads". I checked the permissions with the file manager and they are 777. When I try to upload a picture from my computer, after a bit of "crunching", I get "HTTP error".

 

Any suggestions?

I think that I found the answer in this helpful post: Flash Uploader Fails In Wordpress 2.5

 

Don't know if I will want to do this or just use FTP.

Yes, I don't use the built-in uploader either. I prefer to use FTP and keep my permissions secure.
