codawson Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Greetings! I have been trying to install CGI formail for one of my clients. I've followed the CGi tutorial and downloaded the formail program and uzipped it. The file extensions are all xxxxx.c - I take it that the .c extension represents "C" program language. The next step in the instructions mention going to a command prompt and running a command to compile the formail program. I don't know how to do this. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you - best regards, Carl Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 You do not have shell access so you will be unable to compile. Might we suggest a secure form mail processor? Ultimate Form Mail Quote
TCH-Tim Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 If you want something light and free, you can use CGI Email found in the CGI Center in cPanel. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 The CGI Email in cPanel should be disabled on all the servers. It is not a secure solution. Also, if you ask the help desk this is the response you will get. Because of continued problems with spammers attempting to exploit the cgi-sys install of formmail and cgiemail we have disabled them on all servers. We have no plans at present to enable them. Many ISPs are tightening their spam policies and if a spammer is successful in using formmail to send out thousands of messages before we can shut him down then the whole server can be blacklisted and all messages will be rejected. We did not feel we could wait to disable it. You can install a script in your own site to use. There is a good php script available at http://totalchoicehosting.com/help/id65.htm. It is easy to configure and many users have already switched to it successfully. For more information on the script please see our form at http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums Quote
TCH-Tim Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Go figure it's not secure. The easy-to-use stuff never is. Stupid spammers ruin it for the rest of us. Think I'm only still using it on one account (installed it myself, not using cPanel). Guess I should get rid of it. Quote
stevevan Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 yeah...no sense giving spammers something easy to work with and risking your site and account! BTW...UFM is a very good script. It can be as easy or involved as you want to make it. And if you run into any problems, the author has a forum that answers nearly all of your questions. (Of course, there are several family members right here who use it also! ) Quote
