ben1401 Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 Hi there I was wondering if anyone could offer me any inciteful advice into a problem I have with my laptop (Fujitsu Siemens Amilo L7300). My DVD-RW/CD-RW drive is going through phases of functionality. For the most part it is fine, but then from time to time it stops working. By this I mean the eject button doesn't work, and when I use the manual eject and insert a disc it can't read it. It fact it doesn't even try. The Windows Device Manager can't find any fault with it, and opening up the drive in My Computer during one of the faulty phases just brings up an empty screen, as though there is an empty, unnamed disk in the drive, instead of the 'Insert Disk' prompt you'd expect. Invariably this fault combines perfectly with Sod's Law so that whenever I actually NEED to use the drive it ceases to work. Is this just a case of a faulty drive, or is there something else I'm missing? Thanks Ben Quote
stevevan Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 Hi ben and welcome to the forums. I'm assuming you've already done the simple things like making sure the device driver is current. Intermittent problems are a real pain to diagnose. One thing I've found helpful is to write down what programs I have running and what I did just before the device stopped working. Sometimes that helps to spot a pattern that may lead to the solution. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 Welcome to the forums Ben You don't say if your machine is still under warranty. If it is, I would have it checked out. Quote
