kajoiner Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 I received an email that has confused me and was wondering if I should be concerned. I also received a new post on my guestbook earlier today from an obviously questionable source (he put his personel website as a I AM A SPAMMER site, I host a BoyScout website!). I want to make sure the two are not related. The text from the email is below. There were a couple of text attachments giving more information from AOL on the rejected mail. It was sent to hostmaster@xxxxxxx.org. Do I need to be concerned? The original message was received at Sat, 7 May 2005 20:55:44 -0400 (EDT) from 208-14-24-205.gcecisp.com [208.14.24.205] *** ATTENTION *** Your e-mail is being returned to you because there was a problem with its delivery. Guest Serpentine Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 Quite possibly not related. I cant see the subjects of the rejected mail but I suspect that it may be related to the new sober worm. Quote
kajoiner Posted May 8, 2005 Author Posted May 8, 2005 What makes you think it is a virus? I don't think it would be a virus on my computers. I have checked them all, the virus software is all up to date, and I did not find any adware. Plus, we were out of town all day yesterday and the computers were shut done. Quote
Madmanmcp Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 What makes you think it is a virus? They saidbut I suspect that it may be related to the new sober worm. Part of what the sober virus does is to send emails "from" the infected PC. The virus creates these email and most of the time they are false names placed in the TO: field and in the From: field, so people will receive returned emails because they could not be delivered... You are not infected, someone else is. We all receive these types of emails and we never sent them, nor are we infected. Alls we can do is weather the storm and hope the infection is discovered and cleaned. Quote
