daithilfc Posted March 19, 2005 Posted March 19, 2005 I have a home network set up using both wired and wireless connections. The network is working perfectly and i want to set up internet connection sharing. The computer connected to the internet dial up connection is connected to the network over a cat 5 cable. I would appreciate any help Thank you Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted March 19, 2005 Posted March 19, 2005 Welcome to the forums daithilfc. Maybe this page will help. Or you can read more information over at Practically Networked Quote
TCH-Tim Posted March 19, 2005 Posted March 19, 2005 Another option if you are sticking with dial-up is to get a dial-up router such as this one. I used to use something like this back in the day before high-speed. Quote

TCH-Bruce Posted March 19, 2005 Posted March 19, 2005 Tim I had forgotten about the dial-up router. Here is another dial-up router for Wi-Fi. Quote
daithilfc Posted March 20, 2005 Author Posted March 20, 2005 Thank you for all your help If at all possible id like to be able to use the hardware i already have to share the internet (ie Wireless 4 port router ) Quote
Madmanmcp Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 Check out the Practically Networked link that Bruce gave above. If its a newer Wireless router it should have "WAN" port and you would just connect the internet cable modem to that port...BUT if that is a USB only modem you have a problem. If you don't have the ability to connect the modem to the router you will need to install ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on the two computers to be able to share the internet across the network. There are instruction for that on the Practically Networked site also. Quote

Madmanmcp Posted March 22, 2005 Posted March 22, 2005 I checked the website and found your router here: http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/WGR614v2.asp Did you install ICS on BOTH computers? Sharing dialup will be painfully slow but it "should" work. Quote
