teyong Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 Here is what I have: HP all in one copier, printer and scanner HP500C windows XP home SP2 The problem: HP does not support this unit and since windows xp has left it up to windows to control this unit. I; at least I think, use to be able to copy and save to a file on my disk. I can not do that in windows xp. I can copy and save a photo or print. Not copy a document and save it as a word document. Is there a way in windows to do so or a program that will allow me to do so? Thanks, David Quote
TCH-Don Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 (edited) Hi David ( waves ) I use a program called TextBridge for OCR scanning and save to wordperfect or any word processor document type. they do a good job with text and fair with text and pics. Edited December 8, 2004 by TCH-Don Quote
Madmanmcp Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 An all-in-one scanner will not save a scanned document by itself, you need to purchase an additional "OCR" (Optical Character Recognition) program to convert the scanned image into a text type format. Don has suggested Textbridge and I use Omni Page to save as document formats such as MS Word. Quote
teyong Posted December 8, 2004 Author Posted December 8, 2004 Thanks, guys. I did not know what it was called "OCR". Based on that information from you I did a search and found a program that was free and since I only needed it for my grandchilds school instructions, found it to work for my needs. http://www.simpleocr.com/ Again, thank you for your quick answers. Madmanmcp Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 You're welcome and thanks for the link to that freeware program. I'll have to take a look at it and keep it for future references. Quote
