sds Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 I run IPB 1.2 and have been virtually trouble free for almost a year. Recently, our server loads have been abnormal. One minute we are running at a server load of 0.5 the next minute we are at 20. 5:30 am EDT we were over 6.0. This isn't right. I trimmed 25% of my posts - no improvement. I optimized and repaired my tables. My board is set to turn off at a load of 6.0. Some process just isn't behaving. Does anyone know how to track this down? Maybe some bad data in a table perhaps? LisaJill Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 I would highly suggest you submit a ticket, link at the top of the forums, so that this can be investigated. Quote
sds Posted August 12, 2004 Author Posted August 12, 2004 Hi Lisa, I did submit a ticket. Hi Scott, I cannot see any problems with the server. The load is absolutely fine; right now it is, 0.12. I can see that the size of your database twobill_ipb2 is approximately 442M and surely it will cause some delay during operations. I have double checked your ipb2 database to see that the tables have the correct format. So, any abnormal shutdown of the database has not affected its integrity. I would like to suggest to backup your database and remove some data from the ibf_posts table as that seems to be taking major space. You can get more information/advice on this from our forum at, https://ssl.totalchoicehosting.com/forums. There you will see programmers with years of experience who can advise you how to overcome this. If you want any help from us please don't hesitate to get back to us. Regards, Rajani Chand Systems Administrator TotalChoice Hosting He suggested I come here. I did eliminate 25% of my posts from my forum. However, there is something very sporadic about these spikes. My traffic is heavy, but it moves like the tides - very predictable. Early morning loads of over 6 suggests there is a gremlin somewhere. I was hoping to get a few suggestions to try. Quote
LisaJill Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 Ah, you did not include that information initially. =) When you submitted your ticket, did you include the details about the time of the spikes? Since it was not spiking when it was looked into, that may have been some very important information. I'm not really good with optimizing databases, or with phpbb issues if they get so large (442meg is massive, congratulations on a successful forum! =) ) - perhaps some people at the phpbb forums might also have some input? sds Posted August 12, 2004 Author Posted August 12, 2004 I use IPB - the same forum we use here. and I did tell them the times and how it really isn't behaving normally. This morning we had a load of 8.3 at 5:00 am EST!!!!! I'm on a semi-dedicated server, so I realize there is more than just me here, but I'm always told I have 50% of the traffic. Quote
