Hi all -

TCH and MovableType newbie here!

I've just finished installing MT using the instructions in the TCH help files, and installed everything into the public_html/mt/ directory. Everything looks OK so far (though I haven't set up my blog yet), but I have a question.

The TCH instructions included an option for installing the MT files into the cgi-bin directory. What is the difference between installing MT into public_html versus cgi-bin? What are the pros/cons of installing MT into the cgi-bin? Is it security?

Thanks in advance!

Nothing really on TCH apart from the fact that if you decide to install it into the cgi-bin u'll have to start using staticwebpath and it makes life hell. Installing it into the public_html folder I say is the much better options for newbies and will quickly get you on your feet as urls and stuff is much easier !

Moving to proper forum for organization.

If you install it into the cgi directory it makes things a bit more secure, imo, because you can't look at files in there or get directory indexes natively; it can only *execute*.

The static path thing is setting up one directory and changing one line in mt.cfg.

It is easier to only dump stuff into one folder, though. Of course, less steps is easier. :D
