I hade the same problem and I agree. It was down to permissions.
Changed them using FTP and problems went away.

Wordpress 3.2.1 has a great admin area.. much better than the previous versions.
Only problem still is many plugins have not been tested.

For anyone who needs a simple blank page template, I have added it to this post.
I created it myself and would like to share it with this community.
Just a way of giving back something after reading and learning so much from this site.
