hi, i've created several subdomains using the ancient Netscape Composer, and just heard of Nvu, which is similar but better. my problem is, i'm having trouble uploading from Nvu's publishing window -- it looks similar to Composer's, but is somehow different. do i need to do something in cPanel to create another subdomain of my original (and only) domain? it's been so long, I can't remember. or can i just create a new folder with a new index page and upload that? if there's an Nvu tutorial on TCH, i'd love to see it. as always, thanks for your consistently excellent service! -- j.

Hey, Bruce,, thanks for your reply...to anwer yyour question below, i'm using <blush> Netscape Composer, from netscape navigator 7.2 (i know, i know...Stone Age technology). will soon transfer the site to FrontPage and will be using FPExtensions...but meanwhile, would like to make small changes (new phone number, etc) for my friend. hi, am trying to update a site I built for a friend, which i hadn't touched in about 6 months. i have all her info, but when i try to make even simple changes and publish, I get a "530 Authentication failed, sorry" message window. can anyone translate? is it a matter of re-entering her username/password, or what? hi, everyone... shot a couple of very short videos over the holidays with a Canon 520 digital camera. (not a camcorder, just a little 3Mpixel digital camera) they have an .avi extension and play fine on my computer...but when i tried to upload them to a page on my site, they either don't show up or don't play. what am i missing here? can this be done, and if so, would someone be kind enough to explain it in some detail? many many thanks... and on another subject: am just starting to use FrontPage. is it any easier ot better to use FP extentions in the new site? seems as though it would make it easier to publish with a right-click on any given page, but i'm still confused on this. it's a very simple site, no chat room capabilities or guest books, etc. again, GIANT thanks for great TCH people and service! joan i.

Hey, Bruce, thanks so much...a few more questions here. ---In cPanel you need to create email accounts. Once you create those accounts you can use any email program to use them. Just went to cPanel, and of course it's set to my own site, joanweb.com. But I just created a site for a friend, michalyakar.com, and want to figure out how she can use the email address "*******@michalyakar.com", for her business in general, and to take PayPal payments. can i do this all from my machine? she's not very computer literate. if I can...how do I get into her cPanel stuff? Also, her totalchoicehosting email that she signed up with was *******@msn.com. once I get the *******@michalyakar.com address going, do i also need to make THAT address her default with TCH? (and if so...how?) ----There are instructions on the help site that will assist you on setting up your email program. You can also check out the movie tutorials. Thanks again, Bruce. I've never dealt with TCH email options, so I'm just at a loss here. One more question: I'm going to republish the whole site in Front Page (I'd been using Netscape navigator...from the Stone Age.) hi, all, have had a site for years and love TCH, and now would like to start using my default email address that came with the site...and also help a friend whose new TCH site i just uploaded. i can't seem to find info on how to use our default emails, or how to create new ones... and after i do that, how do i check my email? can i do it thru OutlookExpress? or what? detailed instructions will be most gratefully welcomed... many thanks, jbot satisfied user

Alas, it's not the settings...I think I need to use cPanel or get cute.ftp or something. is there a newbie-level step-by-step tutorial that would explain all this to me? the mozilla link is helpful, but the more i learn, the more my head swims...it would be great to have the instructions written down in one place. giant thanks to all, joan

HI, all, Okay, okay, i know no one still uses netscape/mozilla except me. but i built my site in netscape composer years ago, and i don't have frontpage. my problem: despite tons of TCH tech help, i still can't successfully publish a page in my new subdirectory. the settings i was given are correctly entered, but i get a "553 error: can't find that file or diretory" -- and this is just for the index.html homepage. i still have to build and upload 7 other linked pages. yet somehow, when i type in the subdomain URL, i get a page that says HTTP:DOCS wth a list of the files i've managed to upload in the past (somehow i can no longer update or upload anything). (if you're confused...think how i feel <g>) seriously, folks, can anyone offer me a way to correct all this in Netscape Composer? Many, many thanks, joan

Hi, for some reason i've been getting "530 login incorrect" or "530 authentication error" message when i try to upload a small change to my site pages -- both the index page and other pages. everything had been working fine for months, and i just successfully uploaded a change a few weeks ago...but suddenly today i can't publish anything, i just keep getting "530 login incorrect". i haven't changed a thing on my settings--do you have any idea what the problem could be? my site name is joanweb.com. thanks so much in advance... joan

Hi, I'm brand new here-- my existing site was created on Netscape Composer, and I used to click "publish" from within Composer without using FTP client software. Can I still do that now that I'm with TCH? I keep getting "unexplained error message - 530 login incorrect." Any NN users out there? Detailed help will be MOST appreciated! many thanks, Joan I.

Hi, Just came to TCH from the dreaded featureprice. Problem: When I try to publish/upload my pages through Netscape 7, as I've always done, I keep getting an "Error 530: Unknown Publishing Problem" window. is it because my domain hasn't propagated? (just switched DNS on Network Solutions yesterday, May 13) This used to work with featureprice; do i need to use an FTP program now? I'm using the password TCH sent in my welcome email, and my own password, but so far nothing works. (is there a tutorial on this? i can't seem to find it). many thanks in advance...I'd like to get my site back up asap. j.i.
