I'm trying to work with the MT default style "Gettysburg" and using the instructions from the MT manual > Default Templates, I find when I go to preview my blog, the page only shows the grey "calandar/navigation" bar, and no entries.

What did I do wrong?

Thanks.

The steps I followed (from MT manual):

To select a new style for your weblog, follow these instructions:

Log in to Movable Type, select the weblog you wish to edit, then click List & Edit Templates.

In the list of Index Templates, you will see a template called Stylesheet; open this template for editing.

The prebuilt stylesheets used to customize your pages are located at http://www.movabletype.org/default_styles.shtml . On this page, you can view screenshots of each style; once you have selected the style you wish to use, copy the contents of the text box, and paste those contents into the Template body box of the template you opened for editing in Step 2.

Press the SAVE button to save the new stylesheet.

You will be prompted to rebuild your site; click the REBUILD link, select Rebuild Indexes Only from the pulldown menu, and click the REBUILD button.

When the rebuild has completed, your site will now be using the new stylesheet.

Do you have an entry within the last 7 days, consecutively? That's the default for it to show. You can either up this in weblog config - > preferences, make a new post, or go to templates -> main index template, and find where it says:

><MTEntres>

and change it to look like

><MTEntries lastn="7">

where 7 is the number of posts to show regardless of date.

Does that help?

Thanks Lisa! As usual, you had the key for the lock :(

Another question, if I may:

I've been adding "Categories" <Main Menu > Editing Menu > Edit Categories> and assigning them under "Primary Category" on the "Edit Entry" screen, but this group of "Categories" is not showing up as a section in the navigation column. Is it so that when I set a category it should show up with the other "link" sections?

Can you shed some (more) light?

Thanks!

The default templates do not show the category listing.

Here's the code for it, place it on the template where you want it to appear:

><ul>
<MTArchiveList archive_type="Category">
<li><a href="<$MTArchiveLink$>"><$MTArchiveTitle$></a></li>
</MTArchiveList>
</ul>

note, only categories with 1+ posts will show up.

... and you need to have category archiving enabled for that to work, or it'll throw an error.

Does that help?

Leave it to Lisa to know what to do to whip MT into shape!

Lisa, you better not forget all your MT wisdom now that you've switched to TextPattern...what would I do without your knowledge? ;)

*grins* How could I forget? I answer about 200 MT questions a day, between here, the support forums, and random people IM'ing me due to tutorials and stuff.

I shan't forget. =) I may even upgrade to MT 3 (I still have MT installed) when it becomes a reality, to stay in touch. ;)

I'm still, currently, visiting the MT forums. But I'm also taking part at the textpattern forums. My time at the MT forums may dwindle in the future, but we'll see. But I will always be here, never fear.

Hey, that rhymed.
