Hello to the TCH gang!

Mods: I am posting this here because I am really just looking for a CSS review, not a total site review. You can move it of necessary.

I would appreciate a quick once-over for my new site with a variety of browsers. I have a Mac at home and Win IE6 at work, so my arsenal of browsers for testing is a bit limited.

The site is live, so there should be no dead links.

One quick caveat. Dial-up users beware: If you click on a "Listen Now" or "Download" button, you'll be in for a long wait, since most files are over 5MB. The site navigation should be no problem though.

The font size is 1em, which looks gorgeous on Safari with my Mac, but seems huge with Win IE6. Your thoughts?

This is my first XHTML site (with CSS positioning, aka table-less) and have already had to make many compromises/changes due to issues on the browsers I could test on.

So without further ado, please visit this site and answer a few simple questions:

1. What browser did you use?

2. What do you think of the font size?

3. Are the colors OK? (I am a bit colorblind.

4. Did anything look broken?

The CSS can be found here.

Thank you all for your time.

Hi Wilexa... here are some quick thoughts on your site(by the way I am downloading a show right now!)...

1. I used Mozilla Firefox version.0.8) I think this is the new release

2. Font siz was big but it filled your pages nicely...not much scrolling needed

3. Color blend well together. the brown and tan theme works well

1. What browser did you use?

Firefox .8

2. What do you think of the font size?

Very easy on the eyes, maybe one size lower would be okay too.

3. Are the colors OK? (I am a bit colorblind.)

They all worked very well together, gave it that kinda wood-like feeling.

4. Did anything look broken?

Not to me!

Opera 5

the alternate coloring between days

http://www.otrfan.com/otr/weekly.php

is not there.

The same with bonus tracks, all white in the squares.

Thats all the difference I see.

Netscape 4.7

Ah its useable, which is more than any table-less design.

The fonts are big, but when decreased, ok.

Mozilla and firebird look same as IE

Over all very nice.

I do not htink I have seen table-less design

look this good in all my browsers. Thumbs Up

Thank you all for your comments!

Don, thanks especially for the screen shots. They are very helpful, since a picture is worth a thousand posts in a forum! You are a real godsend.

Mitch, I am thinking maybe a little smaller would be better, too. I need to run some tests.

youneverknow, Thanks for the look and the email test!

There isn't much to add here about how it looks in various browsers since others have already reviewed that aspect.

Colors look good, with one exception (and it's only my personal taste, so take it with a grain of salt). You've given the site an old-timey feel by using tans, beiges and browns. I was visually "stopped" on the Bonus Tracks page where it says "Random OTR Dispenser". The yellow in the chart was a shock to my eyes because I was used to the muted, softer colors of the overall site theme. Perhaps a muted shade of yellow would work better. Although the yellow of choice is a pastel and not really the bright, vivid yellow of a highlighter marker, it's enough of a difference from the rest of the site to be visually arresting to me. It kind of hurt my eyes a little, kind of like walking from a dim room out into the sunshine.

Again, take my comments with a grain of salt. They are only my personal preference, and I'm sure others would disagree.

By the way ... it's a VERY nice site.

Thanks for the looks!

I switched the text to 0.9em. It looks a little better on my PC.

Kasey,

I redid the colors on the "random" page to remove the yellows. I switched to the other main theme colors. I agree, it looks better and more consistent.

I read somewhere that brown means "reliable", so I figured that was a perfect fit for an old-time site hosted by TCH.

It's amazing what you can do with only 5 or 6 colors in your toolbox!

Dave,

Wow, it looks great!

I agree about using a minimal amount of colors. I personally like the somewhat monochromatic feel of your web site. I'm working on doing a similar thing with my blog. But you picked a wonderful color. Browns, tans and beiges happen to be my favorite colors for web sites because their easier on the eyes and quite calming. Of course, I could be biased because my home decor revolves around monochromatic tans and beiges with accent colors through in for punch (i.e., den has navy blue, bedroom has a true, deep purple color, and the kitchen is a combo of two or three shades of blue, tan, beige and brick red).

Anyway, I really do like your site. You did a wonderful, bang-up job!

1. What browser did you use?

Mozilla Firefox 0.8

Opera 7.23

Konqueror 3.2

All under Linux

2. What do you think of the font size?

Looks good on Konqueror and Mozilla. On Opera it's a lot smaller.

If you do decide to make it smaller, be carefull, don't make them too small.

3. Are the colors OK? (I am a bit colorblind.

I like the colors very much! Really nice! :)

4. Did anything look broken?

Just the subscription box, on Firefox and Konqueror. It's fine on Opera.

I also don't have the problem Don described about the alternate row colors on the Weekly Lineup.

And it all passes the tests for valid XHTML and CSS!

Nice work, congratulations!! Thumbs Up
