Kriptik Posted April 10, 2004 Posted April 10, 2004 (edited) Hi, I'm knew so I don't know if this is suppost to go here, but I have a problem. While using Spybot S&D I came across these entries, Common Hijacker: Prefix Change HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\Prefixes\www=http:// Common Hijacker: Prefix Change HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\Prefixes\=http:// Then I tell Spybot to fix these, but if I scan it again it appears again. So far what these have done is change my hompage to h**p://nkvd.us/ which I think is no longer online, because it always takes me to h**p://www.best-search.info/ and adds h**p://www.XXXXXX-XXXXXX.biz/ which is really gross BTW, ewwwww mature) to my favourites. Whenever I try and delete h**p://www.XXXXXX-XXXXXX.biz/ from my favourites it just comes back a minute or two later, and whenever I try to change my homepage, h**p://nkvd.us/ just becomes my homepage again. I've gone into regedit, and found and under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\Prefixes\ it shows: (DEFAULT) REG_SZ (value not set) home REG_SZ h**p://nkvd.us/ mosaic REG_SZ h**p://nkvd.us/ www REG_SZ h**p://nkvd.us/ Also under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\DefaultPrefixe\ it shows: (DEFAULT) REG_SZ h**p://nkvd.us/ I have even tryed deleting these, but they come back also. If someone could possibly help, please do. Thanks! --Kriptik *** edited out the mature link - not permitted in forum *** TCH-Bruce Edited April 10, 2004 by TCH-Bruce Quote
TCH-Dick Posted April 10, 2004 Posted April 10, 2004 Download and run CoolWebShredder unzip and run it, select Fix, let it scan, have it fix all CWS remnants. After it runs, run it again and this time have it fix everything it finds Quote
Kriptik Posted April 10, 2004 Author Posted April 10, 2004 Thanks, I think it worked! You da man, man. --Kriptik Quote
kaseytraeger Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 TCH-Mike, Thanks for the link to CWShredder. I like to keep a library of applications to remove various spyware, and this was one I didn't have. By the way, I ran the scan on my computer, just to be sure. I wasn't experiencing any annoying pop-ups, but rather, I was curious to see if it would find anything. My machine came up clean! Thanks again! Quote

bellringr Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 Alan, I was able to get rid of Kazaa stuff with AdAware - did that not work for you? Quote
kaseytraeger Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 Try Spybot Search & Destroy. That picked up a few things on my computer that Ad-Aware missed. Quote

bellringr Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 The spyware from Kazaa uses your bandwidth, so while it may not crash your computer, it will slow you down significantly. Been there done that. My advice is to get rid of Kazaa and get Kazaa Lite (supposedly spyware-free) or WinMX. Kazaa is ebil Mad!!! Quote
