Can not recieve email new account

Recommended Posts

I transfered my DNS on Friday and Saturday afternoon my site/email went down my site is back up (MT isn't working right but that's another issue) but my email is not working. I am not recieving anything since Saturday. When I ran a DNS lookup it said everything was updated on the 22nd and being that my site is working for the most part I am confused on how do I know when it's resolved for my email to work?

Thanks

Because the MT folder didn't copy over so I have to reinstall MT tonight my site is up but only in text right now that I can figure out later (I hope) it's the email that concerns me as I know I'm bouncing email all over the place. I have had copies of the bounced mail sent to me at work so I could know what was going on.

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software (Exim).

A message that you sent has not yet been delivered to one or more of its recipients after more than 24 hours on the queue on server11.totalchoicehosting.com.

The message identifier is: 18n4VL-0002Ph-00

The subject of the message is: hi~

The date of the message is: Sun, 23 Feb 2003 17:24:32 -0500

The address to which the message has not yet been delivered is:

cheyenne@server11.totalchoicehosting.com

(generated from cheyenne@gnome-girl.com)

No action is required on your part. Delivery attempts will continue for some time, and this warning may be repeated at intervals if the message remains undelivered. Eventually the mail delivery software will give up, and when that happens, the message will be returned to you.

Hi,

You don't by any chance have the Default Address for your account set to :fail: or :blackhole: do you?

If cheyenne is your main account username AND

you have not manually set up an account for cheyenne@ AND

you have the Default Address set to :fail: or :blackhole:

then your mail will fail.

If any one of those is not the case, then let me know.

Ok, so is cheyenne your main account username?

Also, the default address must be set to a full address. For example, mine is set to:

All unrouted mail for will be sent to: stoverdatasystems.com: lianna@stoverdatasystems.com

That may be causing part of your problem.

Even if cheyenne is the main account username, the default will need to be entered as a full address (name@domain.com)

Try that, let me know what happens.

Ok, gnome-girl and I have a work-around in place.

I am going to follow up with this in the morning. I don't think that the work around should have been necessary and will see if there is a root cause to the problem.

Will followup here tomorrow.

PS: Rayners, can you help her out with MT? Definitely not my area!

Thanks.

UPDATE (for everyone else following this thread):

If your old host used cPanel and you simply ftp all of the site files to us, then the account files for mail aliases, etc will likely be overwritten with your old files. This can/will cause problems in more areas than just email, but this thread indicates some of the symptoms.

Resolution: if your old host uses cpanel, please contact us and ask that we transfer your site account for you! It will take only a few minutes to do, relieve you of any hassles and keep your site in tact, just the way you left it on the old host! In other words, we can make it very easy for you.

Per gnome-girl's situation, we are following up to see if we can get her old site simply transferred over. The old host account may no longer be available to us, but we are checking into it.

Mail is working now and site is back up but I can not log into MT I get the following error

Got an error: Unsupported driver MT::ObjectDriver::DBM: Can't locate DB_File.pm in @INC (@INC contains: ./extlib ./lib /usr/lib/perl5/5.6.1/i686-linux /usr/lib/perl5/5.6.1 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.1/i686-linux /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.1 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.0 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl .) at lib/MT/ObjectDriver/DBM.pm line 9. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at lib/MT/ObjectDriver/DBM.pm line 9. Compilation failed in require at (eval 3) line 1. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at (eval 3) line 1.

I pm'd the MT guru so hopefully he can tell me the next step

Thank you so much for fixing this you are really really great

Update:

Alan and HeadGuru got the MT thing all straightened out and Gnome-girl site is online.

The MT issue was caused by file permissions not having carried over properly during the transfer from the old host. First we thought it was a perl version conflict, but with the setting of the permissions, all's well.
