Woohoo! My New Car!

Hey everyone... I thought I would just show off my new car to the family! :dance: I turn 16 on March 20 so I guess I kind of jumped the gun, :rolleyes: but oh well! I love it...

It's a 1995 Buick LeSabre with only 64,100 miles on it! The previous owner had it serviced religiously so I swear to you it looks like the closest thing to new. Thumbs Up It's got power windows, locks, and seats, a radio, and plenty of room!! Since it only has 64,000 miles, and is in great shape, the salesman thought it would last me through college (I'm a sophomore right now in High School). woooot Came at less than $6000 USD too (I even talked the price down!! :whip: )

My first car was a 1985 Chevrolet Silverado. A monster-sized truck. My acceleration was so bad it was funny... But once I got a full head of steam, I drove like a.. well, almost a maniac. :rolleyes:

I now drive a 1995 Saturn SL1 and am desperate to get a 2004 Saturn L300... or maybe a Corvette. Maybe an Avalanche. If I have tons of money, a new Hummer 2...

Mine was a '63 Pontiac Acadian, repainted a bright metallic purple with a white vinyl roof. Cost me $125 CDN. The only thing it passed was the dog sleeping on the sidewalk in the back yard. :rolleyes:

But at the time I thought it was the best car in the world.

and my second car was a 1956 Chevy Bel-Air. What a piece of junk. It was so badly rusted, that the cross mounts for the trany rusted out and the trans fell thru to the ground. We had to weld 6' extensions all the way to the rear of the car. It was classic.

Oh, and you couldnt park on a incline. The 3 speed trans was shot and the car would roll. We would have to put chocks behind the wheels.

Dont even talk about the rear seats. There were holes so big your feet could fit thru, at high speeds it was easy to get the rear passengers wet with a simple puddle drive by.

The key broke in the trunk, so the I had to hot wire the car. The only way to start the car was with a flat bladed screw driver.

But hey, it had a kicken radio and that was really all we cared about.

We cruised Gratiot Ave, from 7 mile all the way up to 18 mile. It was a blast, at times traffic would come to a complete standstill. Or it would just stop to let two fast car drag it out. The police were really hard on the cruisers on Gratiot so we ....

Then would cruise woodward ave, from 5 mile all the way up to 14 mile road. Starting at just before dark and we cruised until the police chased us off. The 5/0 on Woodward were pretty easy on us. They really let us cruise.

Times were really different then. Girls would "Car Hop" from one cruiser to another. There were no drugs and no one ever got hurt or anything.

Wow, that was a fun time in my life. Hard to believe that was almost 20 years ago.

I have the normal cars now, '94 Escort, '96 Taurus wagon, a Horizon (forgot what year) and, are ya ready? - a '71 'Cuda (hehe)

No hemi, modified 404 and I think it came out of the garage twice last summer

No kidding!! I know Head Guru knows but I'm really involved in political campaigns, I'll be able to get tons of yardsigns in that trunk... prolly 75-100! woooot That alone almost had me sold.

I bought my first car when I lived in florida in the 60's

A 57 chrysler saratoga, 440 hemi and a push-button transmission on the dash, very cool.

A real smooth ride even at 90+

My Dad wanted to borrow it once

and came back in the house later to ask where the shifter was.

When I started the car, the wipers started up. :dance:

Ty I have a 94 escort wagon that I love, 46 mpg wahoo,

so much better than the old chryslers 8 mpg :lol:

My first car was an old Porsche 914 that I bought as a body and doors when I was 14 and built up. I blew the engine on the afternoon of my 16th b-day (overheated the air-cooled engine). Then there was a string of VW Bugs from 52-74 models.

Right now, we have a 1984 Jeep CJ-7 that is already highly modified for of-highway use (rockcrawling) and is about to go under the knife again for major modifications. The other car is a 2003 Nissan 350Z (Fairlady Z for those Japanese folks). That thing is a rocket on wheels and a lot of fun to drive the twisty roads going to the lakes around here. Also fun to open her up on the straigh-as-arrows freeways around here. My wife is the daily driver of the Z and is always telling me of folks commenting on the car and staring as she drives around (young blonde in a sports car, I guess)

My first car was a 1970 Fiat 850 coupe. It would get up to 60 coming down from Mt Lemon. On a flat it would take about 2 miles to get it up to 60. Got me where I needed to go.

Have had too many to count since.

Currently leasing a 2003 Tracker.

Heh.... found a pic of my first car. It's the one under the basketball hoop in the picture (You can see why it was only $500).

The '77 Grand Prix was my second car, probably my favorite. And the '85 Pontiac 6000 in the garage was my forth (there was a '77 Chevy Nova in between). I bought the 6000 from my Mom, had it for a whole month before it was stolen and used as a getaway car in a bank robbery in Cleveland.

Hummmm will give away my age but so what here goes........My first car was a 65 Mustang......green with a 3 speed stick shift on the floor......had a am/fm radio. Bought it with my babysitting money for $500 in 1971 some old man owned it and only took it out for Sunday drives......I forget what the milage was. All my other cars were Jap made.....the current one a Red Honda Civic EX 1996 has 45,000 miles on it and the dealer wants it really bad......I may sell it next year. What I really miss about the Mustang was the V-8 engine

Anyway I remember what it felt like to buy my first car......it was a happy feeling.

Lets see,

My first was a '64 Ford Galaxy 500 with a 390 4 barrel, yeah it loved gas stations.

Next was a brand new '68 Fiat 850 like Bruce ($2000) but I only stopped for gas once a month .

Next was my favorite, a '70 Triumph TR6...geesh, just strap me to the engine and get out of the way. And the Canary Yellow just made the hood look longer.

My first car was a 91 ford festiva... (it was made by kia.. so you know how that went)

then I got a 98 cavalier which was nice, until some old lady decided to hit me head on at 55

oh and then I got a 97 malibu, but the 3.1 engine in it kept blowing intake gaskets..

now I got a 2k3 cavalier in bright yellow :lol: and within the 6 months i've had the car i've been pulled over numerous times..

The buick should be a pretty good car for a young person (not that im not young still) as it wont stand out.. plus those cars are pretty comfortable..

Congrats Eric! I remember getting my first car - bought mine with babysitting money, too. It was a very used '62 VW bug, pumpkin orange with a heater that existed more in the owner's manual that actual practice. But, it had a killer radio and great mileage. Had a lot of great times with that car. :lol:

That is a great ride. My first car was a 1983 Buick LeSabre Limited. I put that car through the wringer and it still ran solid. At one point I had even broke 3 of the 4 engine mounts . I got them re-welded and was back in business. It only got about 14mpg... but hey!

BTW, I have a 2003 Ram Hemi 1500 right now. 345hp, 375fp.... 13 mpg, if you are nice to it. Ya just gotta have a big car and a big engine, thats why we live in the USA (or at least I do)!

How exciting to have purchased your first car! What a thrill!

My first car purchase took place when I was 18, and boy was it exciting. It was a used 1985 GMC S-15 Jimmy. That thing, although a fun vehicle (and very good looking once I had it painted a metallic royal blue color) was a gutless wonder. I'd drive down to Los Angeles, and when driving up the grapevine, the large semis would pass me like I was a snail! It was a great off-road vehicle, though. Thumbs Up

My only vehicles since then have been a 1999 Chevy ZR-2 Blazer (leased), and now a 1989 Chevy Silverado Blazer, full-size (I own it outright, baaaaaby -- no more leasing for me -- once burned, twice shy).

I wish I could say that I've had an unblemished record as a real country girl who has only owned Chevy/GM 4-wheel-drive vehicles, but the very first car my parents let me drive when I was 16 was their 1973 Beetle. So much for my down-home image! It was still fun, though, because I almost backed over one of my friends in the high school parking lot, so from then on, they called it the "Hell Bug" instead of the "Love Bug."

Anyway, I'm lost in my own reverie. Congratulations on your new car! (And big kudos that you're a right-winger... I thought I was the only one out there!)

Hmm.... thinking about it....

I've owned, in order, a Ford, Pontiac, Chevy, Pontiac, Ford, Chevy, Toyota, Chevy, Chevy. I don't quite qualify for all American. <_<

And my motorcycle is a Suzuki, so I kinda lose points there too.

Our family "suffers" the same "problem" -- my hubby has a Toyota pickup and a Kawasaki ZX-11 sport bike. I don't hold it against him, though ... Toyota makes long-lasting automobiles that are relatively problem free. I can't speak for the Kawasaki brand because I don't know much about it, but the ZX-11 has >40,000 miles on it, so that's saying something!

My first car was a 68 cougar (back when they still looked like mustangs) It was broken down more often than it ran, next car was a 71 nova with a straight 6 that was quickly replaced with a 327. since then its been anything from a 76 chevy pickup to a 2000 sunfire, lots of camaros (my wife LOVES camaros!!!) A couple of different motorcycles (all suzuki)

We presently drive what i reffer to as "the bomb" a huge land yacht of a car, 85 lesabre limited that i paid $300 for. Trying to save up to buy my wife a small car to get back and fourth to work in and eventually I'll buy another bike.

My first car was a hand me down from my Mom in 1960. Mom got a used 1958 Olds in Mary Kay Pink before Mary Kay was so popular. It had several hundred pounds of chrome on it.

The hand me down was a 1952 Olds Super 88. I added a B&M shift kit to the automatic transmission and replaced the 303 with a 394. Then I had to convert it from 6 volts to 12 to get it to start :huh:

Eric, I had a 1995 Le Sabre similar to yours a few years ago and I have a Chevy Tahoe now. In between were several more Olds, couple of Pontiacs, bunch of Chevy's and a couple of Fords. Got rid of the 98 Taurus wagon after it caught fire the third time. . . .

Ahh, but have you never owned a new one because you always bought used? Or because you always lease?

It seems to me you have probably done both.

I suppose someone who leases cars will have a higher turnover than someone who buys new one's.

I've only been driving about 5-6 years, but I've owned (through my parents), two cars, both used.

Those 9 cars I've had were over 17 years, so on average for me, about 2 years. :huh:

Although they've varied a lot, like the one car I only owned for a month before it was stolen.

Similar to TCH-Mike, though, none of them were purchased new, some were used.... some were very used. My motorcycle is the only motorized vehicle I've ever bought new.

I have owned 23 cars in nearly 15 years of driving.

Owned... not necessarily driven daily, or at all. I got in to buying, fixing up a little and then selling VW Betles in my teenage years.

If I answered for jsut the ones I drove it would be 11 cars in that same time frame. I get bored of cars fast, or they go the way of wrecksville (at least they did when I was younger).

Of all of those, 4 were new.
