Sherie Posted February 26, 2004 Posted February 26, 2004 I have a password protected file (done through CPanel). When we had access to Webalizer stats I could track my members activity through the passwords. I cannot figure out how to do this with AWStats. Is it possible? Also, is there anywhere to find out (in easy to read Englis) how to make use of AW stats? Thank you, Sherie Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted February 26, 2004 Posted February 26, 2004 Welcome to the family, Sherie! Don't know if this will answer your question but I guess you are trying to find out how many times that particular file has been accessed (or downloaded). If you go to the section in AwStats labeled Pages-URL will show every file accessed in your domain. The top 25 are listed but there is a link in the heading of that section to view the full list. If this is not what you are looking for please let us know. Quote
Sherie Posted February 27, 2004 Author Posted February 27, 2004 Pages-URL just shows each individual page accessed. I don't see anything there that tells me what is being downloaded. I have zip files that my members download, that's what I'm trying to see -- what the usage is for downloading the zip files and who is downloading what. thank you, Sherie Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 (edited) You will not see who is downloading the zip file but you should see how many times the zip file was downloaded. It's possible you cannot get what you want with AwStats. My stats "FULL" listing shows every zip file on my site and how many times they were downloaded. I have no idea who downloaded them though. Maybe someone else can offer you another way to distribute the file to get the information you are wanting. Maybe using a MySQL database and having the users log in with a PHP page that you can capture into a database. Edited February 27, 2004 by TCH-Bruce Quote
Sherie Posted February 27, 2004 Author Posted February 27, 2004 where are you finding the "full" listing that shows the zip files??? Quote
Sherie Posted February 27, 2004 Author Posted February 27, 2004 oops, sorry, I found it, just didn't scroll down far enough! Let me go look at it better now. Sherie Quote
boxturt Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 I don't know if it would be useful or not but there are a number of, what look like, very nice download manager ("track downloads") scripts at hotscripts .com Quote
Sherie Posted February 27, 2004 Author Posted February 27, 2004 I emailed the person on the AW STATS home page to ask if I could track my users. This is what he replied: Set ShowAuthenticatedUsers parameter to 1 in awstats config file (hoping cpanel allow you to chnage this). Can anyone tell me how to do this?? And thanks for the tip on the download scripts, I'll check them out. Thank you, Sherie Quote
TCH-Sales Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 If you're still curious as to what all the stats in AWstats mean, one of our staff members wrote a tutorial on it a few months ago. Hope that helps! Thumbs Up Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 Sherie, Yes, I can tell you how to edit it. Log into cpanel Open up the file manager Select the "tmp" folder (open it) Select the "awstats" folder (open it) Select the "awstats.******.conf" file and select to edit it Now scroll to the line that begins with ShowAuthenticatedUsers and change the 0 to a 1. Scroll to bottom and save the file. Now select the file again and change the permissions of it to 444 so that it doesn't get overwritten the next time AwStats runs. That should do it for you. Quote
Sherie Posted February 28, 2004 Author Posted February 28, 2004 Thank you! It is now giving me the information I needed. I appreciate your help. Sherie Quote
boxturt Posted February 28, 2004 Posted February 28, 2004 Glad it's working Sherie Thanks Bruce, that's some good info. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted February 28, 2004 Posted February 28, 2004 Glad I could help! Interesting flags in that file. Need to take a closer look at it myself. Quote
DarqFlare Posted February 28, 2004 Posted February 28, 2004 Yeah, I plan on taking a closer look at it myself... I've already disallowed it from calculating stats using my advertisements loader. Quote
