Virtual Imager Posted February 26, 2004 Posted February 26, 2004 OK.... who stole them? I feel really stupid asking this.... Here's the deal: I have a whole bunch of fonts in C/Windows/Fonts. If I open one of them in ACDSee or some other viewer, I can see them. Then, if I open Word 2000, that particular font appears in the drop-down menu and I can select it and compose a document using that font. The next time I open Word, however, the font is no longer on the drop-down menu and the document I created is no longer formatted with that font, but is in Times New Roman. What's going on? How do I embed the font so it is always a choice in Word and so that my document remains formatted in that font? It's like I do all this work and save my document, but it ends up somewhere in the twilight zone and a different document takes its place. I can almost hear the music.... and the voice of Rod Serling! Quote
Virtual Imager Posted February 27, 2004 Author Posted February 27, 2004 Well, I solved my own problem. I'll say how just in case anyone else might have a similair dillemna (although I'm sure most, if not all, of you are far more savvy than I and wouldn't be in this situation). It seems that downloading fonts to c/windows/fonts is not enough. You have to then install them by going to start > controlpanel > fonts and clicking on file> install new font and then selecting the font to be installed. Once you do this, the font will appear in the drop-down list in Word, Outlook Express and wherever else there are font choices. Live and learn! Quote
ThumpAZ Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 From your original post, it was nearly impossible to be sure that that was the issue. But I couldn't think of any other reason. Okay, okay... back to work with me Quote
DarqFlare Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 You don't even have to download them to your Fonts folder... You can download them anywhere, then head over to the font installation and do it from there, having it copy the font file to the font folder as well. Then you can go remove the original file or do with it whatever you please. Quote
Virtual Imager Posted February 27, 2004 Author Posted February 27, 2004 Yes... so I'm learning. That became apparent when I finally found "font installation" and realized I could select a font from any location. One of the sites offering free fonts even suggested using a Temp folder instead of the Fonts folder... said Windows likes it better that way. Do you think Windows really has feelings???? Quote
escaped_light Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 Do you think Windows really has feelings???? LOL I sure would explain a lot things, and it would also explain why swearing at it doesn't actually fix the problem . Robert Quote
Virtual Imager Posted February 28, 2004 Author Posted February 28, 2004 I am completely convinced that Windows not only has feelings, but, if its feelings get hurt, it is quite capable of plotting and carrying out revenge tactics! Quote
DarqFlare Posted February 28, 2004 Posted February 28, 2004 Wouldn't surprise me if my Windows sometime just refused to boot up, citing my odd usage habits and lack of general direction.. Quote
