Help me - help a customer

Hi,

We have a customer who is paying a web dev team to dev his site. However, after they have neared completion the customer feels the site is not responding as fast as it should, and is slower than most other sites. After a long discussion he agreed to let some of our forums users test the site to see how it loads.

Here is what I am asking.

Broadband Users report back.

Here is what we need to be able to satisfy this issue.

Give us your feeling on site load times. This site is phpnuke based.

Here is the link to the index.php

now please download this file and report back on overall server speeds.

I would really like to determine this issue for the customer. He is a very nice person who just wants the answers.

As always

THANKS

I loaded the site several times and refreshed several times as well. It loads ok for me (using cable) but all the headings are .gif files and load at different times so it seems to load slowly. Total load time for the page was from 3 to 8 seconds each time. I checked my overall net connection and it was running at normal to above normal for me. I also downloaded the test.zip and it downloaded at 220 to 250 KB/sec which is pretty much what I normally get.

Hope this helps. It's been a long day so I hope this is semi-coherent.

I'm on broadband (cable) - and I got about 3.5 seconds on the page, and about 10 seconds on the download (125k). Seems adequate.

One thing you may want to mention, is the site uses a lot of images ( all of the nav/ top/ banner/ left are images ), so naturally this will affect page "load" - even though it not your connection speed, it based upon your processor and how quickly your computer can place all the images in place. I would recommend using text/ styles for all the text images.

My professional opinion only.

I'm on a workstation connected to a server which is connected to a Verizon DSL (max 768 download/128kb upload). Download of the file took 16-17 seconds, tracking it using System Mechanic:

Modem Speed & Download Times

14.4k - 58.89 seconds

28.8k - 30.45 seconds

56k - 16.47 seconds

ISDN (128k) - 8.40 seconds

T1 (1.44 MB) - 2.57 seconds

HTML document: http://discussindia.com/html/index.php

Document size (Kb): 19.13671875

Total Images size (Kb): 77.66796875

Too big in my opinion, I have a high speed connection too (500-600kb) but most others are not like us. I would alter things (see below).

You know, one jpeg file (the little black and white image) is contributing to over half the size:

http://discussindia.com/html/modules/My_eG...llery/Art/1.jpg 41.8291015625 kb

Also, adding HEIGHT and WIDTH attributes to your images and WIDTH attributes to your TABLE tags will help display ther page quicker.

Hope this helps,

D. Scott
