TCH-Thomas Posted January 20, 2004 Posted January 20, 2004 To all my brothers and sisters in the TCH-family I´m trying to set up a "chat to us live" support on a site, but i have to figure out which instant messsengers that are most popular. Please, will you vote. -Thomas Quote
borfast Posted January 20, 2004 Posted January 20, 2004 I use Gaim. It allows me to use the following protocols: AIM/ICQ Gadu-Gadu IRC Jabber MSN Napster TOC Yahoo Zephyr So basically, I can talk to pretty much anyone I want Quote
TCH-Rob Posted January 20, 2004 Posted January 20, 2004 Trillian here, gives me; AIM MSN ICQ and Yahoo at the same time. Quote
TCH-Dick Posted January 20, 2004 Posted January 20, 2004 Trillian here to, it lets you run multiple screen names for each service, so I can have my work screen names and my personal screen names running at the same time on one app. Quote
Frylock Posted January 20, 2004 Posted January 20, 2004 I am also a Trillian user. Great product. Though the vast majority of my IMing is via AIM. At least I personally like that one the best, and it seems to be the most popular amoung those I IM with. Quote
!!blue Posted January 20, 2004 Posted January 20, 2004 Trillian here too! Tho i hate when Yahoo disconnects me sometimes Quote
vangrieg Posted January 20, 2004 Posted January 20, 2004 I use Miranda as a client, it's really the only one out there that has an interface I can tolerate on my screen for more than 5 minutes. And that's only because it has a ticker and I almost never have to open it. I've heard it has plugins for different protocols, but I only use ICQ because I've never seen anyone who would use Yahoo or AIM. And I would never chat with anyone using MSN, of course. Quote
vangrieg Posted January 20, 2004 Posted January 20, 2004 As a matter of fact, I am thinking about switching to Jabber to avoid using all these proprietary networks, but can't find a client I would like. Quote
Lianna Posted January 21, 2004 Posted January 21, 2004 Trillian, with AIM, Y! and MSN screen names. I find that the majority of my chats are with AIM clients, then Y! and fewest with MSN. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted January 21, 2004 Author Posted January 21, 2004 I have now tried Trillian. It works great except for one thing, it refuses to connect to yahoo. Looks like I have to add aim support for this site, but remember poll is still open so keep on voting. Thank you everyone who have voted so far. -Thomas Quote
TCH-Dick Posted January 21, 2004 Posted January 21, 2004 I have no problem connecting to yahoo with trillian Quote
ThumpAZ Posted January 22, 2004 Posted January 22, 2004 I use MSN and ICQ for work purposes, and Y! and (infrequently) AIM. I think I might have to give Trilian a try. Thanks for the tip! Quote
Boojum Posted January 22, 2004 Posted January 22, 2004 I actually don't use an instant-messaging client at all. Such is my loquacity that I'd never get any work done. Quote
Lianna Posted January 22, 2004 Posted January 22, 2004 I have now tried Trillian. It works great except for one thing, it refuses to connect to yahoo. There is a patch available on the Cerulean Studios website that was specifically created for the Yahoo! issue. Quote
TCH-Dick Posted January 22, 2004 Posted January 22, 2004 Just another FYI, i used to use the free version of trillian but a few months ago I paid the $25 to get the full version. The chat logging feature alone was WELL worth the $25 Quote
Lianna Posted January 22, 2004 Posted January 22, 2004 Yup, I'm paid, too. Love the plugins! POP mail notifications, weather, task list, url grabber. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted January 22, 2004 Author Posted January 22, 2004 (edited) Hm... Im taking a look in my wallet now and yes if i all things working it might be worth it. <_> Edited January 22, 2004 by Tonsa Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted January 22, 2004 Author Posted January 22, 2004 I downloaded the patch now, unfortunately no one online to test it with. But theres a day tomorrow too. The chat logging feature alone was WELL worth the $25 Im sorry to say this but there is logging in the basic version too and it works well. -Thomas Quote
TCH-Dick Posted January 22, 2004 Posted January 22, 2004 With the paid version you can close trillian in the middle of a conversation, re open it and the conversation you were having is still there in the message window, no need to dig through logs. If this is available in the free version its new. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted January 22, 2004 Author Posted January 22, 2004 Ah ok. No, I thought you ment plain chat logs. If the thing you mean works I dont know yet. Thanks anyway -Thomas Quote
ThumpAZ Posted January 22, 2004 Posted January 22, 2004 With the chat log feature you are talking about, it almost seems as if it can be used as a sort of key logger, but limited to chat programs? Does it log chats even without being turned on? Quote
ThumpAZ Posted January 22, 2004 Posted January 22, 2004 OK. So it has to be running to log the chat sessions. Good Quote
MikeJ Posted January 23, 2004 Posted January 23, 2004 I primarily use Fire for Mac OS X, Gaim for Linux, or Trillian Pro for Windows as clients depending on which machine I'm on, so I usually am on AIM, ICQ, Yahoo, and MSN, although AIM is my default primarily because it's the one that I have the most contacts on. I also use BitWise occasionally (but still waiting for their Mac OS X version). Quote
[=hris Posted January 31, 2004 Posted January 31, 2004 MSN - i really dont think anything else even comes close Quote
Zeitgeist Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 I use gAIM on my Linux box and trillian on my windows box. Quote
Dumplin Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 I use Gaim. It allows me to use the following protocols:AIM/ICQ Gadu-Gadu IRC Jabber MSN Napster TOC Yahoo Zephyr So basically, I can talk to pretty much anyone I want Wow I guess you do have everbody covered<G> I just started using Jabber and Love it......it's kinda like ICQ but no popup or banner ads and it's open source and real cheap [free] Quote
TCH-Sales Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 I used to use both AIM and Yahoo a whole bunch, but now I love Trillian Pro. Quote
ThumpAZ Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 Add me to the Trillian list. I installed and have been using it since a few days after first mention in here. Quote
vendlus Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 Used to use AIM and ICQ. I'm exclusively on MSN now though (mainly because it gives me email alerts). Quote
sour-lime Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 I'm a Trillian Pro (2) user as well. The basic version (0.74) is really nice; I recommend it to all my friends, but I love the Pro version for the 'meta contacts' It allows you to make just one icon/name for each friend, even if they have multiple login names and IMs. It definitely reduces the clutter to be able to have just one program for all the interfaces, and just one name for each friend. Plus, the spellcheck, the email plugin, the rss feeds... I really hate to use anything but anymore. I highly recommend changing the default skin to Aikon, whether you need the one for th e free version (Aikon 2) or the paid version (Aikon 3). Quote
Guest LightKeeper Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 I use IRC mainly. But I do use Yahoo Messenger and Paltalk. Quote
Swootz91785F Posted March 20, 2004 Posted March 20, 2004 (edited) I use yahoo messanger, aol, and rocket odigo. I like rocket odigo because you can talk to people that are on the same site as you. removed link please read the forum guidelines Edited March 20, 2004 by TCH-Don Quote
LisaJill Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 I use all of them, but thats not an option in the poll ;p Quote
guita01 Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 I use them all. I combine them all with Trillian Pro. Quote
wbragg17 Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 I use AIM as a part of iChat for Mac. I am up in Vancouver, BC at grad school, while Jeani, my partner is in Oregon. The video chat is a godsend. And now it should work with Windows users as well. Quote
Amoraq314 Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 I use AIM all the time, used with DeadAIM. The ability to clone AIM is great, much better than sn linking that just got implemented. Also, logging chats is extremely useful. Right now i'm waiting for Ostego to get finished so I can try that out with AIM, and of course the best thing is it's free Quote
Ninepatch Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 I installed AIM only to use here in TCH - I don't use IM anywhere else. Quote
kevan_j Posted April 22, 2004 Posted April 22, 2004 Trillian Free ... but considering purchase. Quote
