Head Guru Posted January 6, 2004 Posted January 6, 2004 What is wrong with people? I take my family to breakfast on Sunday. As we are pulling out of the parking lot, I may have pulled out in front of someone. I accelerated heavy, pushing the gas to the floorboard. It really wasnt even close. We come up to the next traffic light and this person stops next to my Mini-van and gives my wife the middle finger and starts screaming at her. I have a 6 year old and 4 year old watching all of this. I just dont get people any more. Happy Holidays to the jerk in the white dodge pickup. Quote
Guest schussat Posted January 6, 2004 Posted January 6, 2004 I think some people just live angry, and not just when it comes to driving. My brother-in-law just about started a brawl standing in line for a movie, on Christmas day. Makes for a tough afternoon of "family togetherness." It's tough, because as much as you want to just let that stuff go, it's hard to shrug off when someone gets so freaked out. I hope the breakfast part was good, anyway! -Alan Quote
ejh Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 Jeesh- those are pretty bad. I got a little story of mine own from not to long ago. My dad was driving me out of the mall parking lot and we come accross a four way stop. The guy on the left goes then we go and the guy on right comes cruisin' around the corne... not seeing a giant red stop sign. Get's all mad because he thinks he we're out of line... Raises his two hands and presents to my father and I his two middle fingers. He's clearly cursin' away in his pick up with his wife and all. He then stops in the intersection puts his car in park and slams open the door, and sets one foot out with another on the way. His wife grabs his arms and holds him back. Some people just don't get it... Quote
Deverill Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 Selfishness, Bill. I was talking with my mom about a similar topic this weekend. It is not about right or wrong any more. It's not about what you did even. It's about how I was inconvenienced, embarassed, abused, wronged, etc. It doesn't matter who goes first or fastest ... it just matters that in my world you did something to me (see how many times "me" is in that thought?). People don't see you as a person or a family. They only see you as a thing that's causing them some kind of pain. It's a crying shame but "Do unto others" is gone - it's been replaced by "Don't let them do unto you without a fight." Quote
TCH-Rob Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 (edited) True Jim, I will say the days I go to the range and I have my Desert Eagle in my shoulder holster that people are very nice to me. Edited January 7, 2004 by TCH-Rob Quote
Lianna Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 I figure it this way, if they feel like their time and energy are more valuable then mine, then they must really be damn special! But no sooner than they do something in front of my kid...I get angry. Luckily, my son has an answer for everything, "Mom, they were listening to the Devil. That's really bad. God's gonna be mad at them." All of a sudden I feel vendicated. Quote
Head Guru Posted January 7, 2004 Author Posted January 7, 2004 I sorta left out the ending of the story. So this guy is flipping my wife off, and cursing at my family. He slams on the breaks and waves me to get out of the van. Well, me being me. I get out. Now whats so funny is the fact that I am 6'5 300lbs, and just really large. So im walking around the van to see what this jerk wants and when I see him, he goes about 4'9 100lbs. Dude looks up at me, turns 4 shades white, tells me to screw off and runs back into his truck and speeds off leaving me in the middle of the road. But still, Happy Holidays to this Jerk! Quote
Madmanmcp Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 Ankle bitters. Its always the little ones that bark the loudest, nipping at your heals thinking you will run. Turn and face them and they run for the hills Quote
surefire Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 Bill, I laughed so much at the ending because almost the same thing happened to me many years ago. I changed lanes without looking, realized too late that there was a car in the blindspot, but barely bumped it. So the guy's furious and motions for me to pull over, which I was in the process of doing. He parks on one side of the block and I have to park around the corner. I feel just horrible and I'm walking around the corner to apologize to the guy and as I turn the corner I see that he's all of 5 foot nothing and looking to tear someone a new one.... until he see's my athletic 6'4" frame come around the corner, and you could just watch all the bad-I AM A SPAMMER just fizzle and dissapear as he realized he should be civil about the whole incident. I apologized and waited for the cops, but inside I was laughing at how this little weazel had done a total 180 out of self preservation. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 (edited) Sorry to hear about this Head guru. But as been said if they feel like their time and energy are more valuable then mineandsome people just live angry But one thing good came out of this topic and that is that we now starts to figure out what you do look like, thinking about your halloween topic. Once again, sorry to hear this, but as a wheelchairperson, people being wierd or mad are everyday stuff. What i do if possible is just to answering them "I love you too". If it works i leave out. -Thomas Edited January 7, 2004 by Tonsa Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 A good quote to have in mind: The wind of anger blows out the lamp of intelligence -Thomas Quote
Virtual Imager Posted January 8, 2004 Posted January 8, 2004 Sometimes it's not just size that runs them off... I once had a guy come at me with a tire irorn when I accidentally cut him off on the Long Island Expressway. It was a dark night. He followed me off my exit and forced me over to the side of the road. There was steam coming off his body, he was so mad. But when he got to my car door and saw that I was "just" a 5'4" I AM A SPAMMER (100 pounds) girl, he (thankfully) turned around and walked away. Of course that was a long time ago and that kind of 'chivalry' is probably dead now. .. And though I'm still not big, I haven't seen 100 pounds in a while either. So now I pack too. Not in a shoulder holster though... in a shoulder purse. We better be quiet, Rob. People are liable to think that Phoenix is still the Wild West. Oh yeah... it is. Maybe I'll run into you at Shooter's World sometime. Just don't call me Ma'am... Quote
jslagle Posted January 8, 2004 Posted January 8, 2004 I am 6'5 300lbs, and just really large. If you also have blond hair with a little gray mixed in and a large bald spot on top you can see what I look like if you look in the bathroom mirror in the morning Quote
Head Guru Posted January 8, 2004 Author Posted January 8, 2004 I spent 11 years of my life in law enforcement. There is a saying that goes. "It's the little ones that DONT carry weapons, and they are the ones to watch out for!" Quote
Boojum Posted January 8, 2004 Posted January 8, 2004 Interesting. The trouble-seekers always seem to be guys in pickup trucks or SUVs--usually large ones. Oh, well. You know what they say about compensation. (Actually, it would make an interesting sociological study to see if people driving large white vehicles really are more aggressive than others. The ones around here certainly seem to bear out that stereotype.) Quote
Larry Posted January 8, 2004 Posted January 8, 2004 I had the same problem the weekend before xmas.. I went to the mall, and some guy cut me off and I almost hit him, i honked my horn.. and went onto my own little way.. (it was a mall entrance and he had a stop sign, I had no stop sign... incoming traffic has the right of way at this mall) needless to say this jerk followed me around the parking lot, had I not had my mother in my car, I would of probally stopped and laid down the smack.. so i figured i would have some fun with this guy, drove around the mall for a bit.. and let him follow me until i got to a bunch of parked cops.. I informed one of the cops what happened.. as I was leaving the mall I saw the guys car getting towed.. so I assume he either had something illegal or had some warrants I actually don't know a single time i went to that mall that i don't get cut off coming in that entrance.. no one realizes incoming traffic has no stop signs.. Funny part is.. the entrance and road around the mall parking lot is a public road.. It would be interesting to see the cops sit there and write 1 ticket after another.. Quote
