JustMike Posted December 16, 2003 Posted December 16, 2003 Do I need to go to the optometrist again?? Do you really offer Unlimited Databases, Unlimited POP Accounts, 300 MB OF DISK SPACE, 5.5 GB of Bandwidth, Shopping Cart software (not that I do E-commerce (yet lol)), quick installs for message boards and chat rooms??????? ALL FOR THAT PRICE ??? Oh and TECH SUPPORT TOO? Ok, call me nervous (Mike's fine too), it's just that my current hosting provider, oh did I say provider...whack me across the head (there's a reason I used my comcast email addy for forum registration) doesn't offer most of what I read that you offer....but then again, they aren't providing 70% of what they offer either. I just started building my own site a little while ago and I was quite happy for ohh say two months... That was until owner sold the company. Gave it some time seemed oh somewhat stable...I figured "Well what should I expect for such a low cost (to which is much higer than you if you added in all of what you include).... But the company is boasting 24\7 tech support and now that I'm having major problems and their boast of 24\7 tech support now obviously means to me out of 24 days tech support is reachable for 7 seconds and you just missed them. I've had a case open with them now for over three weeks and it's yet to be looked at...their forum boards no longer work, mailed them several times with no reply...nobody to pick up the phones unless you call sales (suprisingly they even dare answer those phones) but they just say "I'm not sure how to get a hold of them other than e-mail" OK, enough of my ranting about websytz.com (sorry for posting the name...I know I shouldn't but I'm pretty _______ (now those words I won't use here)). Another question (well honestly I've already seemed to have found the answers to the original "do you really" questions....still kind of find it hard to believe though lol). Other than some of the problems over there I'm having....one kind of pertains to AOL as well. Unfortunately, many of my family and friends use AOL, so of course I mail them (my site uhhh over ttthhere is a personal site, not really a company or anything) however; I no longer can. Apparantly AOL has started a policy where they will not accept mail from servers that do not have reverse dns lookup turned on..... DO YOU? My hands are actually kinda shaking with the thought of attempting to keep a presence on the web after my experience with them....since it's not like it's for any real need. I'm a IT Support person myself but don't really know a lot of Webmaster type stuff and this was my of trying to learn.....just didn't think the lessons I'd be learning would be more on the poor practices of a business though. ________________________________________ RECAP (incase I lost you above in my ramblings) ________________________________________ Do your smtp servers have reverse dns lookup turned on, as AOL no longer accepts mail from servers that don't (and apparantly many other domains are now also requiring that) ?? Thanks for dealing with the rantings of the frustrated, Mike P.S..I wouldn't be transferring my domain, so ya'd probably get a new domain registered here too.... Quote
TCH-Don Posted December 16, 2003 Posted December 16, 2003 (edited) Hi Mike Welcome I know what you mean, too good to be true, thats what I thought a year ago. But it is very true, and it just gets better and better. As to AOL, not letting you use your sever to send, you can just clone your e-mail settings and change the return Addy to your site, and send through AOL as though it came from your server. I can't answer about the reverse DNS, but I am sure staff will be along soon and can. As to the unlimited, as long as you do not go over your space or bandwidth, add all you want. And yes a few mouse clicks in your cpanel will install guestbook and forums. You will find a lot of talented and helpful family members here, all willing to help out. If you have any questions just ask. I know you will love it here because Rock Sign Edited December 16, 2003 by TCH-Don Quote

TCH-Don Posted December 16, 2003 Posted December 16, 2003 Ok I did find something on the reverse DNS see this post on reverse DNS So it appears it is active. Quote
JustMike Posted December 16, 2003 Author Posted December 16, 2003 Hey All, Thanks for the replies.... That pretty much wraps it up. Wraps it up as in my thoughts on actually coming to another host....Gonna Do It Do have one ? that I'm sure someone could probably answer OK, now my domain over there...I know I can transfer it...not sure if I will or not but since it was paid for 2yrs...don't wanna loose cash However; with that domain, I'd prefer to just use it as an EMail Domain and not actually host a site...might use a forward and point that addy to the new one I plan to purchase today....but can I have two domains on one hosting package? I plan on using the old domain just for Email and the other domain that I would purchase here for just a site? Or would it be easier to have the old domain also email forward to the email of the new domain... Hope that's clear Quote
TCH-Dick Posted December 16, 2003 Posted December 16, 2003 but can I have two domains on one hosting package Yes, but you can't have it point to a subdomain, it must point to the same page as your primary domain. This will allow you to use it for email. Quote
JustMike Posted December 16, 2003 Author Posted December 16, 2003 Website wise...I wouldn't even want old-domain.com to have a website And if I had to...then I'd do old-domain.com forward to new-domain.com and not to old.new-domain.com Just figured old would forward to top level of new and then have two separate emails Thanks again P.S...just registered the new domain and now gotta figure out which hosting plan I want...probably starter as really that was more than I had at the old place. TCH-Don Posted December 16, 2003 Posted December 16, 2003 Welcome to the family Mike glad you decided to stick around Thumbs Up And we really mean it, if you need anything, just ask your new family Quote
JustMike Posted December 16, 2003 Author Posted December 16, 2003 I hope I didn't hose this... From here I registered the new domain... (virtualsaloon.net) Then once I did that, I chose and ordered the starter package Now, during the order...I entered in virtualsaloon.net and filled out the form bla bla woof woof....I was given the option on how to register the domain....Well I clicked the checkbox stating that I would register it here (as I did) and just clicked continue (or next or whatever it was)... I know it's gonna take a bit to get all set, I'm just hoping I ordered correctly...Got the mail from Domains by Proxy and also got the order mail from TCH...I know I still have to wait for the "Starter" Email with all my settings and what not... Well at least I know one thing...if I did hose something here, at least someone is around to fix it Quote
TCH-Sales Posted December 16, 2003 Posted December 16, 2003 Yeah, no worries domain setups can take 1-6 hours. Once its set up, you will receive a welcome email with more details. Quote
