Spyware Detection Programs

Recommended Posts

So I'm working on a computer that is infested with spyware. I downloaded a spyware detection program and it has identified all of the files that contain spyware.

In order to delete those files, you have to purchase the other half of the program for about $29.00. I really don't mind paying this, as long as it works and takes care of all of the problems. My only concern is that with spyware, people can monitor your actions through the computer and can get your credit card number online. Is there any other place where I can purchase something to get rid of spyware? How much should I pay for a decent program? :)

Thanks guys.

I recently had a problem with spy-ware.

I suddenly had a pop up that came up even while on my own site.

So I looked for a better program to remove it, as ad-aware did not find it.

I found this one from searching this forum

www.safer-networking.org for Spy Bot Search and Destroy

it found quite a few that ad-aware missed.

Thanks for the link Don. I noticed that if you want to send a donation by mail, you should send cash and wrap it up in tinfoil?? Isn't that wierd? I guess they must have a lot of problems with people stealing cash in germany.

Thanks again.

Spybot is the program I use too and it's great. I really like the immunization feature. The only down side is that they build better spyware every day and you have to remember to download the latest version.

Try here:

grc.com/optout.htm

I also highly recommend checking out other parts of that site. He has lots of free downloads that are well worth looking into.

Thanks again for all of the resources.....One quick question. When I used spybot, a lot of files entitled Back Web lite. Should I get rid of those. I am not sure if it will damage the system if I get rid of them.

Thanks Again!

One more question.....

there was a set of files called n-Case that came up unchecked when I ran Spybot Search & Destroy. The description according to spybot is that it probably won't make a difference if I remove them or not. Well, upon removing them, I found that no pages show up on explorer or america online. Every time i go to a site, i get a message saying, can't open search site.

I used the rescue option and undeleted all of those n-Case file thinking it would fix it, and it did not work. All I get is that same message and the typical "can't access the server" message.

Again, I've checked the internet properties and the connection and everything works...what should I do?? Mad!!!

no i've deleted n-case and nothing bad happened. I think its just some ad stuff that's built into software like kazaa ! I wouldn't recommend running many spyware destroyers together as apparently they detect each other as spyware just as you shouldn't install more than one anti-virus system on the same computer

I've only been running Spybot - Search & Destroy.....

I don't know what to do about the internet. I have tried everything I can think of and no pages show up. I do have Kazaa on it....should I uninstall that? Also have AOL 9.0. I have heard of many people having problems with it, but none like the one that i'm having. Regular explorer and aol both don't work on the system.

What do you mean by no pages show up? Do you get an error message/page of some kind?

Can you from a Dos prompt ping totalchoicehosting.com?

If so, then probably an IE/AOL issue or settings problem.

If not, can you from a dos prompt ping 216.22.28.57?

If so then probably a DNS settins issue.

If not, then your internet connection is broken somehow.

Kill the connection setup and rebuild it. See if that helps

Are you using a software firewall?

had something like that, my pages displayed then froze for a long time, even pages on my hard drive,

it turned out to be my firewall program, re-installed and it was fine.

If you have a firewall program, dissable it to see if that it.

Are you using a software firewall?

I am not using a firewall. I tried using spybot on another computer (both have XP operating systems on it and cluttered with spyware). On this one, i did not delete the n-Case files and the same thing happens. I have an internet connection (connects to aol and other programs requiring internet connectivity), but when i go to view a website, I get an error message:

you know, cannot find server.

the white page that tells you to refresh..or check the internet options

I'm seriously stumped! :whip:

Any help would be great.

p.s. - TCH - Lianna, I do not know how to use DOS on windows...can you explain?

Sam, to use DOS in Windows click on START | RUN and type "command" and then press the ENTER key. A window will open with the DOS prompt. Type in your DOS commands from there. To close DOS type EXIT.
