dukeblue219 Posted November 9, 2003 Posted November 9, 2003 Google provides a set of APIs that anyone can use to make up to 1000 automated queries per day. You can read more about the Google APIs at http://www.google.com/apis/ I won't turn that into a link unless the TCH mods approve... Once you sign up for an account you can use tools available on the web to check your position by plugging in your own API code. It works great and Google approves, so you won't get penalized. Quote
SEO Posted November 9, 2003 Posted November 9, 2003 As I have said in other threads, Google APIs have great potential. There are many possibilities here... if any dabble please keep us all informed. Very acceptable (and good link) Thumbs Up Quote
DarqFlare Posted November 9, 2003 Posted November 9, 2003 I really want to look into the APIs more, when I have additional time... I also want to build an RSS output for my website first. Quote
Deverill Posted November 10, 2003 Posted November 10, 2003 (edited) I did a quick search and found these two sites: www.pwqsoft.com/website-position/index.htm www.top25web.com/index.html] USE THEM AT YOUR OWN RISK! There is no guarantee they are playing nice so they may trash your rankings. You have been warned, it's not my fault you got banned! (They are pretty cool though.) I'd be happy to have a TCHer write something we could trust. If anyone does make sure you tell us! [edited by D. Scott Demmin, removed direct links] Edited November 10, 2003 by TCH-Scott Quote
Guest schussat Posted November 10, 2003 Posted November 10, 2003 I really want to look into the APIs more, when I have additional time... The API access is pretty neat. I don't have the link(s) off the top of my head, but the good people at O'Reilly have put together a handful of short tutorials on using the API. It's quick and easy to get a developer key, and some relatively simple perl (or other language of your choice) lets you make queries. -Alan Quote

The first link seems to be good software that uses your API code appropriately. The second link does not use the API, so avoid using that one guys. [edited by D. Deverill Posted November 10, 2003 Posted November 10, 2003 Thanks for the followup Ted. I wasn't sure what they were using. Quote
SEO Posted November 10, 2003 Posted November 10, 2003 I removed the direct links from the posts above. Something to keep in mind about links: You can never, never get penalized for a link to your site/page. Makes sense, you do not have control over who links to you. However, you can get penalized on who you link to. This is how the various filters work on discriminating such things as bad neighborhoods, unauthorized scripts, etc. Therefore, I would much rather be save then sorry [i tried to make these edits when you first posted Jim, but I had a devil of a time getting my high speed working... then we lost power today! Really strange being in an office without power.... what to do? I actually read!] Quote
Deverill Posted November 11, 2003 Posted November 11, 2003 Rats! Scott, I'm sorry you had to edit that. I intended to not make them links but obviously forgot it before hitting Add Reply. Mea culpa, sorry. Quote
TCH-Rob Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 I will go with Ted on the first one. I have been playing with it while trying to develope a PHP version and it seems to do as it says. Unless I am missing something, you cant damage your site rankings by using this as nowhere does it ask what your website is nor is it asked when you get your key from Google. I am not giving a full "Rob" recommendation of this product so still use at your own risk. Quote
SEO Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 ...you cant damage your site rankings by using this... I agree Rob... the only way you could ever 'damage' your site is if you were to link to such a tool and the tool does not have explicit approval from Google. Quote
