djwins
Very recently, I've started to get emails bounced back that were sent from my PHPBB forum to an AOL, Yahoo, or Hotmail address. After searching http://forums.cpanel.net, it seems that it could be a problem with the new version of Cpanel, but I did not understand any of the solutions offered. Can anyone offer some assistance? Here is what the bounced back email looks like: This message was created automatically by mail delivery software. A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed: EDITED@aol.com unrouteable mail domain "aol.com" ------ This is a copy of the message, including all the headers. ------ Return-path: <cheapyd@cheapassgamer.com> Received: from nobody by server20.totalchoicehosting.com with local (Exim 4.24) id 1AACvm-0002q5-Rt for EDITED@aol.com; Thu, 16 Oct 2003 14:33:02 -0400 To: Undisclosed-recipients:; Subject: Topic Reply Notification - NLCS CHAMPS *MARLINS* NLCS CHAMPS Reply-to: cheapyd@cheapassgamer.com From: cheapyd@cheapassgamer.com Message-ID: <e97938e4382344910ab6e351262b6391@cheapassgamer.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-transfer-encoding: 8bit Date: Thu, 16 Oct 2003 14:33:02 -0400 X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: PHP X-MimeOLE: Produced By phpBB2
Head Guru
With the new upgrades to cPanel came a tad bit of improved security. Your phpbb is mailing out as nobody by server20.totalchoicehosting.com This simply is no longer allowed to work. You need to change your mailer settings in phpbb to use smtp instead of the phpbb. I answered your support ticket. In the furture please either issue a support ticket or post here. By doing both it makes me work 2 times as hard. I am getting old and lazy. djwins
Thanks and sorry about that. Is it true that I need to use my ISP's email account for my SMTP and cannot use the email address provided through my webhosting account with TCH? I would love to use my main address, cheapyd@cheapassgamer.com My ISP is RoadRunner (NYC) and I am having a hard time finding out what settings I need to use. PHPBB asks me for the following info: SMTP Server Address SMTP Username SMTP Password Thanks again, David

Anacrusis
I'm still having trouble with this, I"m getting emails bounced back with "Unroutable Mail Domain". I'm using osCommerce and set it use send through SMTP but that didn't help. After poking around in the cPanel forums somebody mentioned this: "If you are getting the unroutable error it is generally because you disabled letting the nobody user send to remote domains. This is almost always a bad idea execpt in extereme cases" can somebody help me with this? Thanks.
TCH-JimE
Hi, Where it says "smtp server" put in local host. And then try again. Do you get the same? Jim Edited October 17, 2003 by Jimuni
Anacrusis
I don't see an option to specify a mail server. I just found a mod for osCommerce that lets you specify an smtp server, login and password. I'll try installing that and see if it helps.
