vba Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Hi TCH team, When will newer versions of the various software be made available via Fantastico. eg joomla 2.5.1? Thanks Quote
TCH-Dick Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Fantastico is maintained by a Netenberg, and they can be a bit slow on adding new software at times. Especially in cases for things like Joomla 2.5.1, as it is not a simple upgrade and requires more of a migration. This is the same issue we seen with Joomla 1.5 and why it is listed as separate installs in Fantastico. We have sent off a notice to Fantastico at this time regarding the newer version of Joomla, but as usual I am not expecting to receive an ETA from them. If they respond, I will update you here. Quote
TCH-Dick Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 We typically wait a while on major new releases to make sure the developers have had time to deal with any new bugs prior to adding it to Fantastico. The new version will be in an upcoming release, though. I cannot give you an exact day, but it shouldn't be too much longer. Quote
carbonize Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 And here we are almost a year later and Fantastico is still offering Joomla 1.5 despite Joomla now actually being on version 3. It is because of Fantastico's refusal to keep thiings updated that we get people installing scripts with major security exploits in them. They are still offering SMF 2.0.2 but we are now on 2.0.4 with the last two updates being security patches. Quote
TCH-Dick Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 We understand the frustration with Fantastico and to be completely honest have consider replacing it over the past year. However, we chose to hold off for the next major version which starts its beta in the coming week. We are looking forward to testing this new version as it "makes it possible to upgrade as soon as a script update is provided by the script developer". This means we can roll things out from our end without having to wait on Fantastico to provide us with updates. We will keep everyone updated once we have full access to the new version and have done some testing. 1 Quote
carbonize Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 That's good to know. Hopefully it will help prevent peoples sites being exploited because of seriously out of date scripts installed through Fantastico. Quote
Nexxtworld Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Any updates on Fantastico testing and/or replacement? Would love to be able to move beyond Joomla 1,5 after the very long delay - but not familiar with install workarounds or comfortable with word of the security issues related to them. Quote
Nexxtworld Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 ok. Assume from that, that Fantastico is a dead-end for the foreseeable future. Are there any other approaches anyone can recommend to safely install a current, supported version of Joomla on a (actually a few) TCH accounts? Quote
TCH-Alex Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Are there any other approaches anyone can recommend to safely install a current, supported version of Joomla on a (actually a few) TCH accounts? We are sorry, but there is no automated way to install new versions of Joomla. But you can manually install them any account on TCH - as it is supported on our servers. You can download the Joomla packages from here and can manually install . Click here to read detailed installation instructions for Joomla 3.0 and click here for the 2.5 instructions. Quote
Nexxtworld Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Thanks Alex. I wasn't sure we'd have rights to execute the install from the control panel. Will give that a go in the next day or two. Quote
