ricco Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 Help! Why does my domain name not point at the web space? I bought the silver plan at ***** and I own www.riccojames.co.uk Forgive my incompetence and please be as clear as possible (not using too much jargon) TIA Quote
section31 Posted January 11, 2003 Posted January 11, 2003 I don't work for ***** but would like to help...U need to include more info, but i'll try and help...did u go into your registerar's website and change ur account to point to *****s dns servers? Get the dns info stuff on the activation email that was sent to u by *****... Quote
Lianna Posted January 11, 2003 Posted January 11, 2003 According to a WhoIs query of your domain name, you have entered the ***** name servers. I also see that you registered on 1/5/03. Did you also make the DNS change on the same day that you registered? Or did you do that on a later date? When I go to riccojames.co.uk, I see the 1-2-3-reg.co.uk window "This domain has been registered by..." So, if you changed the DNS servers on the date of registry, contact your registrar. Explain that you're still seeing the "This domain registered by.." window and it's been 6 days. If you changed your DNS servers more recently than that, it could reasonably take 12-72 hours for the change to propagate. So wait a bit. Lianna Quote
Lianna Posted January 11, 2003 Posted January 11, 2003 Funny thing. I just tried a couple of different file names and rose the same 123-reg page every time. See? http://riccojames.co.uk/index.htm http://riccojames.co.uk/index.html http://riccojames.co.uk/default.htm http://riccojames.co.uk/default.html http://riccojames.co.uk/home.htm http://riccojames.co.uk/home.html What that tells me is that your registrar has a default error page associate with your domain name. So that if the page isn't found then the visitor is directed to that error page (which they've happily supplied to themselves an advertising plug). What is the name of your home page??? Rename it to index.html if it isn't already. Otherwise, please let us know what's going on, ok? Lianna Quote
ricco Posted January 12, 2003 Author Posted January 12, 2003 It is called index.html plus I have made another web page and called it index.html just in case mine was corrupt or something. I still have no joy yet. I can view it from cpanel though I did also try to access the ftp via windows network places and that dont work either and reports this msg.... --------------------------- FTP Folder Error --------------------------- Windows cannot access this folder. Make sure you typed the file name correctly and that you have permission to access the folder. Details: A connection with the server could not be established --------------------------- Can someone tell me if it is propogated yet or whatever? Quote
Lianna Posted January 12, 2003 Posted January 12, 2003 Ricco, When did you initiate the DNS change on your domain name? Whois lookup of your domain does show that SNH servers are listed. Network places FTP access to your site will return the error for as long as you have incorrect domain name direction...ie: if the domain name is not fully propagated, you will get errors no matter what medium you use to try the access. If you initiated the DNS changes more than several days ago, did you contact your registrar (123-reg) and inquire with them? What did they say? Lianna Quote
ricco Posted January 12, 2003 Author Posted January 12, 2003 YES, yes, yes, yesssssssss My Webpage Well my brother noticed 2 days ago that there was a line or two with data missing in the set up to the DNS pointing so I guess it must have been that. CHEERS PEEEPS! Quote
Lianna Posted January 12, 2003 Posted January 12, 2003 Bet you're glad that's over, huh? I'm still seeing the 123reg page, but my ISP's dns server never even gets updated on weekends. I'm sure I'll see it tomorrow morning. Lianna Quote
Junior Posted January 12, 2003 Posted January 12, 2003 Yeah, I saw it early this morning! Looks like the issue is resolved! Quote
Head Guru Posted January 12, 2003 Posted January 12, 2003 Damn I must be going blind. I missed this whole thread until it was over. Glad to see it got fixed. Bill Quote
ricco Posted January 15, 2003 Author Posted January 15, 2003 Yeah everything is kewl Cheers all Quote
TCH-JimE Posted January 16, 2003 Posted January 16, 2003 I have to admit though, 123 take forever to let go of a subdomain. 2 weeks after I transferred mine here, they still claimed to be hosting it, until they looked it up on WhoIs SH are so much better Jim Quote
