bellringr
Hi everyone. It has been a while since I dropped in. Almost didn't remember my password. I take care of a non-profit site that is hosted here and they'd like to make changes so that we can post news and events as they come in rather than just once a month in the pdf of the newsletter. Here are some of the features I need: RSS feed for just the latest news portion Archives (hopefully done automatically) with search Something fairly simple as I do not know php or javascript and my CSS skills are ok, but not great. Would WordPress do the trick? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
OJB
Wordpress or any similar blog would do nicely for your needs. I have installed a few wordpress blogs for people I know who are, let's just say, less than computer savvy and they have found it a cinch to get to know and use. No need for any PHP, JS or CSS skills really, unless you want to be designing your own templates, in which case you will require some CSS and XHTML knowledge. But you can download loads of great looking themes very simply using Wordpress.
TCH-Bruce
I agree with OJB, WordPress would work nicely.
bellringr
Hopefully posting works on my blackberry... With WP, do I create static pages for thw site pages? How exactly does that work when it isn't set up as a blog? I agree with OJB, WordPress would work nicely.
TCH-Bruce
Why wouldn't you set it up as a blog? Don't know if there is an app you can use on the BB to post to WP. I think there's a way to make static pages but why would you want to? Found this and this and this for blogging with a Blackberry. Hope it helps. bellringr
Because the website is a lot more than just a news source. There is a calendar of events, resources pages, information pages... You can see what is currently there at www.achr-il.com. Why wouldn't you set it up as a blog? Don't know if there is an app you can use on the BB to post to WP. TCH-Bruce
Yes, and WordPress is more than just a blogging software. You can create pages as well as posts using WordPress. Pages can be used for your calendar of events, resource pages, info pages and your news can be the blog entries. You can even specify which page you would like WordPress to display when visiting the site.
bellringr
That's what I was wondering. That would be the static pages? Yes, and WordPress is more than just a blogging software. TCH-Thomas
Static pages would be everything you do not allow comments on (or you could but I wouldn´t recommend it). Have a look at my site/blog (tompasworld.com) for examples. All links at the top of the page (About, Archive, contact me etc) are "static" pages. TCH-Bruce
You can set the entire blog to be comment free by not allowing comments. Oh, and you don't have to quote every reply.
bellringr
Thanks! As for the quotes, yeah, I know. :-p I'm on my 'berry so it wasn't giving me a choice and I was being lazy about removing them.
