Hi!

I am so fed up with Windows IE 8. It's to the point that it's almost dysfunctional. I leave it as my default only because I've just started using IncrediMail again and it doesn't play nice with Firefox.

I just searched uninstalling Vista Windows IE 8. It appears to be a rather straightforward process, but I've had that thought before.

What I think I'd like to do is dump IE 8 and go back to 7, which apparently will automatically happen when I delete 8. Actually, having said that, I was never too happy with 7 either.

I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but my husband's side of the computer does not have the same issues with IE that my side has. Go figure.

So, what do you think? Shall I just go ahead and delete IE 8 and let the cards fall where they may ... or ?????

I'll wait to hear from you.

Cheers!

In my opinion and experience, so far, IE8 is a far better browser than IE7. I loathe IE6 and hate IE7 but actually don't mind IE8. I'd still choose Firefox or Chrome over them though.

What issues are you experiencing with IE8? If your husband is not experiencing the same IE8 issues as you are on your PC then unfortunately the problem could be your end rather than with the software itself.

Issues:

  • It crashes pretty much every time I use it.
  • It's incredibly S L O W

Okay, no question, Firefox is better. I use it.

Question: The instructions--when I Google it--for reinstalling 8 seem pretty simple. My concern is: Is it really that simple, or could I be messing with something that will turn out to be more convoluted than I expected.

Yes, I suppose the problem could be something internal in the computer. Now you're talking waaaaaaay over my abilities.

One thing that can really slow down IE8, is if there are a lot of 'add-ons' running while you are trying to browse, managing your add-ons can really speed up browsing. To fix try this:

In IE, go to ‘tools’ and ‘manage add-ons’.

Disabling any unnecessary add-ons may help your Internet run faster.

Try disabling add-ons with more than a .2 sec load time. (i.e. tool bars)

If you’re still not having any luck, I recommend you reinstall IE8 on your system, which really is simple, and will likely fix your browsing problems.

Good luck,

Thanks so much Kyler.

I just hit the wrong key and deleted this entire post for the second time! Doesn't that just drive you INSANE!!!

I've done as you said. There were several sites listed, most of them already disabled. There were two F-Secure, which is my security system.

Name Browsing Protection Toolbar

Publisher F-Secure Corporation

Status Enabled

File date December-16-09, 9:33 AM

Version 1.10.5435.0

Load time 0.70 s

Name Browsing Protection Class

Publisher F-Secure Corporation

Status Enabled

File date December-16-09, 9:33 AM

Version 1.10.5435.0

Load time 1.00 s

Your thoughts on that. Do I REALLY need F-secure monitoring my use of the web. I'm pretty savvy and not likely to go anywhere I don't belong.

The other thing that popped up as I closed the site was shdocvw.dll. What is that and should I keep it the next time it pops up. I just closed the site and ignored it this time.

Thank you so much for your direction. I've just learned something I didn't know and I so appreciate your help.
