Head Guru
What if TotalChoice were to add the following add on scripts to all our servers? Allowing a ONE CLICK INSTALL? ›› Invision Board ›› PHP-Nuke ›› osCommerce ›› Post Nuke ›› Xoops ›› phpWebSite ›› phpAuction ›› Live Help *Live Chat Script* ›› phpBook ›› b2 (weblog) ›› phpAdsNew ›› phpCollab ›› 4Images Gallery ›› Advanced Poll ›› One Or Zero HelpDesk *HelpDesk Script* ›› Moodle ›› Gallery What if Total Choice allowed the customer to AUTOINSTALL any of the above scripts? One Click and its installed? What if TotalChoice accepted requests from clients for more scripts to be added within 24 - 48hrs? What if TotalChoice was to offer this at no extra cost to the client? Well?

rayners
I am a big fan of post nuke my self. You might want to add movable type to your list or some other blog software. There are some license issues with a host providing MT for its users. It is do-able, but I imagine Bill would have to get in contact with the Trotts to work something about beforehand. That said, I can't say I'd be opposed to including MT in the list, but I may be a little biased.
Head Guru
I have been in contact with Six Log (MT), lets see what they say.
Lianna
What would be the impact of this auto-install on the client's ability to then use plug-ins and add-ons that are designed for use with some of those apps in the list? Here's why I ask. I love postnuke, but mainly because of the availablity of some plugins. Would I still be able to use the plugins or would it have to be requested for the server level? With Squirrelmail, we've seen that using plugins isn't available now for the server level install of the app. If the installation would happen at the account level, then I'm definitely game! leezard
I've used PHPNuke both the auto install and a self install version and all of the hacks, add ons, plug ins etc were just as easy to install on the auto installed versions as they were on the self install. I would think it would be the same for mostof the other scripts that have add ons available, at least i would hope so....thats a good point you bring up. TCH-Rick
The plug-ins shouldn't be a problem since all of these scripts install into the user's site directories. This is different than SquirrelMail which is installed system wide and uses symbolic links so that all the program files are only installed once and are available to all. Not to toot my own horn, but if we do end up making Movable Type available via a one-click-ish install (on the account level), I'd be happy to allow my MT Plugin Manager to be installed along with it. I imagine that would be a big hit.
Head Guru
I will leave the link-farm scripts for Scott to answer. That would be downright nice of you rayners. Still waiting for an answer from the MT Team. My gut reaction tells me that they will not grant a license for the one click install. However, we shall see... rayners
I know they have allowed other hosts to do installs in the past, though I do believe those were paid installs. When I get a chance, if you still haven't heard back, I'll look into it a bit further.
rajah
Hi everyone! TCH is amazing! If you could add all these as 1 click installs, well, I would waste a lot more time trying things out. And that's a GOOD thing! As for MT, I'm installing it now. We'll see how that goes. I may be hitting you up soon rayners if that's ok Keep up the good work, and yes Rock Sign

SEO
I will leave the link-farm scripts for Scott to answer. My opinion would be a definite no. From Google: Google Facts & Fiction Fiction: Joining a link exchange or "free-for-all" link program will boost my rankings. Fact: Linking schemes do not increase a given site's PageRank, and will often do a site more harm than good. Many sites that advertise link-sharing programs not only offer little value, but will distribute your email address without your permission, resulting in an increased volume of unwanted mail to you. I know that Google will actually penalize sites for such activity... what is a penalty? Removal from the Google Index [ouch!]. To the “What if TotalChoice were to add the following add on scripts…” Dad-gum Head Guru you can still surprise and amaze me. How much bigger can we make VALUE an issue with TotalChoice? parrotletmommy
phpAuction Hi Bill, You mentioned at the beginning of this discussion about phpAuction. Has this gone any further than this discussion? The reason I'm asking is the bird club I belong to is wanting to have an online auction on their web site and being as I'm their web master I would like to find out as much as I can about this subject, or can you point me to someplace that has a program/java/whatever so that I can establish this auction on our site? Thanks, ParrotletMommy
MikeJ
Parrotletmommy, phpAuction was being considered as part of a package of things but has since been decided against for now due to various reasons. So for now, there are no plans to add it as a one-click option, but you can still install it on your own. Alan
›› Live Help *Live Chat Script* ›› phpAdsNew ›› Advanced Poll Would be great. And how about the monitoring, has TCH ever decided about it?
wbragg17
I too, would like to express my sincere appreciation to all the effort and consideration given by TCH. It keeps getting better and better. I am currently using Wordpress for my blog, which I believe is an extension/continuation/replacement of b2 ?!? You can check out my site, as I am still using the original template. http://WilliamBragg.com/wordpress & I just installed gallery with the help of your tutorial last night. Even though the tutorial is for a slightly older version of gallery, it was SO HELPFUL. To have it auto install would be incredible. I am not sure I will actually be using Gallery unless I can figure out how to change the layout/design/graphics (hint, hint I am looking for hints... ) Again, everything you are proposing would be incredible & very welcome. greenbriel
I know this is an old thread, but it looks like it keeps kicking... How difficult would it be to also include a one-click UNinstall for any of these? It would be nice to know we can try them out without leaving cyberdroppings all over our nice clean webspaces. Also, FWIW, I'm a big MT fan too (although mulling over the ramifications of their new licensing, maybe time to go Open Source again ...). That said, I've installed it so many times I've got it down to about 8 minutes now Cheers, -Gabe
