tx_deputyswife Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Suddenly I'm getting a "500 Internal Server Error" Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@nationalpolicewivesassociation.org and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log. Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. I cannot figure out what could have happened because no changes were made to the site. I checked the Error Log for the site and can't make a lick of sense out of it. Can someone please help me? Quote
jayess Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 I am also suddenly getting this on my site. How can this be fixed? Quote
tx_deputyswife Posted May 31, 2009 Author Posted May 31, 2009 Did you make any changes to your site? I ask, because I didn't. The error ust occurred out of the blue. Quote
jayess Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 No I havent made any changes to the site in over a week. The site was fine yesterday but when I loaded it this morning I was getting the error. Thought I would leave it and see if it went away but it hasn't. My site uses the Mandalore server at TCH. Does yours? Quote
tx_deputyswife Posted May 31, 2009 Author Posted May 31, 2009 I have NO idea. Is there a way to find that out? Quote
tx_deputyswife Posted May 31, 2009 Author Posted May 31, 2009 When I look at my Error log it says this over and over: Invalid command 'SecFilterEngine', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration which I don't understand. Quote
tx_deputyswife Posted May 31, 2009 Author Posted May 31, 2009 I found which server I'm on and also, when I checked for new posts here on the forum, there are multiple messages about different server updates. I can't help but worder if this is the problem. When I looked at the one for the server I'm on, the time coincides with the time our site went down. I submitted a support ticket to let them know. You might try doing the same. I'll post back if I find out anything. Quote
tx_deputyswife Posted May 31, 2009 Author Posted May 31, 2009 Ok, that worked! They fixed the problem. So, submit a support ticket and let them know. Good luck and thank you! If you hadn't posted you were having trouble too, I might have been up all night trying to figure out what happened. Quote
jayess Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Ticket submitted. Glad you got yours sorted, looking forward to same Quote
TCH-Carl Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 The servers are being upgraded to apache 2 on which "SecFilterEngine', 'SecPostScan' are depreciated. If you are using it on your .htaccess, please remove / comment the entry. The site would work fine. This is an added layer of protection enabled as default on apache 2. Quote

So should this happen also to my other site, on Cathar server, I can simply do this and it will be fixed? Quote
TCH-Carl Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Yes, you can. If the issue persist, let us know. We will gladly check it out. Quote
OJB Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Yes I had this this morning... The fix was commenting out: SecFilterEngine Off from my web root .htaccess Quote
OJB Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Seems odd that an Apache upgrade would completely deprecate a command like that so that any sites with those commands that update will all cause internal server errors. Surely a better idea from apache would have been to kill it gracefully and just ignore the command and phase it out? Quote
muymalestado Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Same original 500 Internal Server Error problem occurred today. After reading here I raised a ticket. The response was prompt. The site is accessible again. Thanks TCH. Quote
