Waiting On An Expired Domain To Become Available

A buddy of mine had a domain he let expire. One of these resellers snatched it up and has since expired. But it is not available for purchase yet. Is there a way to get flagged as soon as it's available without paying the extra cost of backordering it? I really don't want to check on it every day for the next month or two.

You can do that through the TCH domains registrar (under Services on the TCH home page), but in my (limited) experience, it's hit-and-miss as to whether they actually grab the domain or not. It may depend on how long the redemption period is for the guy who owns it now.
