JTD Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Can anyone point me in the direction of a good free or inexpensive firewall that will work on a 64 bit vista machine????? Quote
Madmanmcp Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Whats wrong with the Firewall that came with Vista? Can't get any cheaper then that. Quote

Madmanmcp Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Because windows firewall does very little to protect your computer is why!!!!! Only problem I've heard is that it lacks outbound detection, otherwise its fine. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Comodo seems to work on 64 bit vista: personalfirewall.comodo.com/download_cis.html Quote
JTD Posted November 12, 2008 Author Posted November 12, 2008 I am going to give Comodo a try thanks everyone. Quote
carbonize Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 But as we discussed on my forums don't install the anti virus that comes bundled with the firewall. Quote
JTD Posted November 16, 2008 Author Posted November 16, 2008 Well I tried Comodo for 3 days now. I must say that it is one of the most bloated naggy firewalls I have ever seen. It is to bad the old Kerio firewall is not around any longer. All well on with some more searching!!!! Quote
carbonize Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I found Kerio a pain in the arse the way it constantly monitored your system for changes. Sygate was probably the best firewall ever until Symantec purchased it. Quote
JTD Posted November 16, 2008 Author Posted November 16, 2008 I have to agree. Sygate was one of the best firewalls around. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I thought of something... Don´t know what you mean with "inexpensive" (ie how much you are willing to pay for it) but we have run Kaspersky on a Vista computer at my place for a long time with no problems. Quote
carbonize Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I know JTD and he wants FREE. But then why not when there are plenty of FREE alternatives that suit the home users needs precisely. And in the case of Open Office far exceeds the paid for alternative Quote
JTD Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 Well actually free is very limited when it comes to vista 64 bit as i am finding out. Right now I am trying out a trial version of outpost firewall. So far so good. And It does not annoy you with nag screens. It actually learns from the computer after you install it. Without nagging which is a BIG plus in my book. Quote
