eFashion2Go
Anyone, So, I want to create a website. The problem is ... I'm CLUELESS! I mean, beyond clueless, where does one begin? Are there programs with templates you can customize that are not gazillions of dollars and beyond understanding? Lack of knowledge is a definate drag, I'm an artist and have a great eye but lack the "know How" to create, sigh. I didn't want to join Homestead or the like but instead wanted to try it on my own. So, all of you techno gurus, genius and techno Gods, lol, shine your techno knowledge down upon a hungry to learn babe in the woods (no, not hood), cause there's nothing worse than staring at the screen and wondering, what now? "Toto, I have a feeling that we're not in Kansas anymore." Help? Thanks, Tara http://www.efashion2go.com
leezard
there are a lot of wysiwyg (what you see is what you get) html editors a LOT of people here use cute site builder, you can get a free trial of it at download.com, you can also just do a search for html editors at download and you'll have a ton to try out. I use dreamweaver MX, theres a trial version of it at macromedia.com
eFashion2Go
leezard, WARNING: You may want to take a Motrin before reading further! Okay, sooooo, I create a page in HTML and then load it to the space I'm renting, is that it? Of course, that's a simplified response but remember "I know, nothing." Keeping it simple, works for me. Is there a place to preview and or test your pages? I appreciate your time and help. Thanks, Tara http://www.efashion2go.com
leezard
most editors have a "preview in browser" feature so that you can see what it will look like in a browser. I'm not 100% certain but i think cute site builder doesnt have that feature, I've never used it so cant say for sure. and you pretty much nailed it, create the page and then upload it to your public_html folder, you can do that with the file manager in cpanel or with the built in FTP (file transfer protocol) in most editors. One thing to remember is you need to have an index.html, or index.php if you dont have an index all ppl will see are directories.
eFashion2Go
leezard, The more I read the forum boards looking for answers, the more I realize that I'm a stranger in a very strange land! Wow, I'm very intimidated by all of the techno language and concepts. Okay, Tara, breathe in, breathe out ... Well, no room for ego here, lol, the only way to get the answers is to post and by posting, man, the TCH community's going to know that I just dyed my roots blonde! I mean, I know zip! Time to bite the bullet, so where in the sweet bloomers is everything? It's not centrally located here? Is there a tutorial to lead people who know nothing through from beginning to end or is it more that your presumed to know how to do it all already? Most likely the latter, sigh. I imagined a control panel that had all these bells and whistles to help you create a website or whatever but I have no idea where it is. I might as well be dropped in China and told to go to the library and read a few books on website construction. Anyway, I willing to take the time and learn, if people in the TCH are willing to teach. I signed up for the beginner package so $4.00 isn't much to worry about while trying to figure it all out. Remember, I'm NOT Chinese and know NOTHING about any of this. Speak in, she knows nothing language, please. Your time and efforts are appreciated. TCH-Rob
I would try it in baby steps vs. learning what everything means at once. First I would pick a web biulding program and learn to use it. I used to use FrontPage, it was easy for me to learn. Others use Cute SiteBuilder because it is easy for them. You might want to try the free trial of Cute as there is also a forum in here about it and could probably get the most help from it. I tried 5 or 6 before I found one I could understand. Now I am working in PHP and am having to do everything by hand. So, first build the site and then worry what to do with it. That will be later and we will al help as best we can. Virtual Imager
Before you spend money on a program, remember that you can also create webpages using Word or Netscape Composer or other programs that you may already have on your computer. Start with a blank page. Add a background (usually click on 'format page' in the drop down menus. Then add text (just type as you would in any word processing program). Use "Insert" to add images. You can highlight any text or images and click "Insert link" to create hyperlinks to other sites or other pages on your own site. And Voila! You've got yourself a simple webpage. You'll learn by doing. I did... and I'm an artist too. Good luck.
TCH-Don
Tara, there are two ways to get started 1-get a book and learn html, create a page in a text editor, and ftp to your site. You can use a free program like Mozilla from http://mozilla.org it is basic, but a great learning experience. It has a visual mode and an html mode. If you want to learn html this is the way to start. I have a demo site made with mozilla that shows the publish setting before your domain propagates (you get a domain name and point it to your space here, and wait for all the ISP's in the world to update their name servers to see your site here). 2-use a visual program A visual program or a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) is the easier way to start, then you can learn html later to add more features. For me, CuteSITE Builder is easy, and flexible enough to let me add to it as you learn more. It work like a word processor. Use a built in template or make your own. Add content (text and images). Preview to a browser. Setup the program to publish to your site using the info in your welcome email. The nice thing about the program is that, unlike other programs, it creates the html code as the last step before uploading to your site. That makes it more efficient than most programs. And you do not have to deal with the html code, unless you want. Then as you learn you can insert html on a page where you want. See Kevins site, below, for more info on setting up the publish settings. As you update your site, it will add or remove the changes to your site, but only the changes. So small changes are quick. The Total Choice Help site was created with CuteSITE Builder by Kevin. here are some links to look at: CuteSITE Builder tour from their site, you can download the trial program there. sites made with CuteSite Builder these two have demos and links to many other sites. Samanthas Site Kevins Support Site and my own The Pets Corner made with CuteSITE Builder there are many more customers here using CuteSITE Builder If you need help just post in the Cute Site Builder & Cute FTP forum here. have fun! Mel
Tara - Read this site (twice!) it will hold your hand and walk you safely through the woods... there IS light at the other side! Joe will show you slowly and carefully how to make your page using notepad... so you fully understand how to make a webpage, not how to run a piece of web page making software. Learn the basics, then you can learn the tools... So you want to make a webpage... Mel
TCH-Don
Mel, excellent suggestion, very nice site. I agree with their recommendation of getting notetab for a text editor, it has a preview button to let you see the changes as you go. One thing is to make a folder in My documents for your web sites, say my web sites then maybe in there make a folder called test for this tutorial. so you have a place to save the first page you create and any images needed. I would also call the first page index.html rather than page.html so when you upload it to your site, it will display by just typing in your site address. Don't be afraid of learning a little html, there are only a few words to learn to get started, you will pick it up fast, and it will repay you later as you get more involved. eFashion2Go
Everyone, First of all I want to say, "You people are fantasic!" I tested this site prior to joining and it is the people who answered questions, quickly, professionally and with an actual content that says something that made my mind up. I'm sooooooo tired, it's now, 8:22am and I haven't slept yet. I've been up looking at everything, CSB, gifs, jpgs, trying to figure out or find a place to create a logo. Lol, there's so much out there, it's never ending! I know a little about basic html. For example: <img src="ABC.com.jpg"> displays an image. I don't know how to create tables, or layers that would create a template. Lol, if that's the correct way to describe it even. Okay, I'm going to do it. I have to because I'm picky and it's got to be right. I can hear the chairman of the board singing, "I did it, my way!" Lol. I added the html within the eBay structured creative area for my About Me page, that's where my domain is pointing to until I can create a website. http://www.efashion2go.com It's okay but not want I'm looking for exactly. So, my company is eFashion2Go.com. My tagline is: Satisfy your passion for fashion! I sell designer apparel. I have more questions, BUT My brain is going numb, lol, need sleep ... see you all later. I truely appreciate your time and effort on my behalf, thanks! Kind regards, Tara http://www.efashion2go.com
leezard
one of the ways I learned/still learning HTML is to look at source code. I've never had the patience for a tutorial. So after learning basic HTML, I surf around and find something I think looks cool and try and figure out how it works. In Mozilla if you want to see the source click View>Page source, same applies for Netscape its the same in IE except it is View>source. I learn faster by taking somethng apart than I do building it from scratch
TCH-JimE
Hi Tara, As easy as it is for me to say this, the best thing to do is to dump striaght in and learn it first hand. I have now become custom to useing just bog standard note pad and dreamweaver MX at a push. Personnelly, if your learning about HTML for the first time, stick away from templates as they don't teach you anything. I find it best to make a page that I like and then to save it, do a back up of it and them just duplicate the file and change it for each new page. Tables are very easy to learn, although I am now fixated on not using tables at all and doing tableless designs. A quick intro on tables. You can find extra tags on the net but this is for simple tables. I am doing this quick lesson because until I grasped tables suddenly one day after drinking alarge amount of Pepsi, I never got how they where done or what to do with them. I hope this short intro is useful. To help you, get a piece of paper. Draw a box on it. This is the outline of your table which in quote is this: <Table width="300" height="100" border="1"> </table> Note for almost all HTML and now with the new XHMTL standards, all tags must be closed, even BR ones. The width and height are measured in pixels. The border bit is just on so you can see whats going on, you can make it zero later. Anyway, on with the short lesson. Inside the box, draw another box, make sure it goes all the way across the table and say, 1/2 way down the page. This is called a table row <Table width="300" height="100" border="1"> <TR> </tr> </table> Now inside of this table row, draw 3 boxs. These are called table cells and this is where you will be putting all your text. <Table width="300" height="100" border="1"> <TR> <td></td><td></td><td></td> </tr> </table> Repeat this and put another row in the gap under your first row and put 3 table cells in it. You quote should look like this: <Table width="300" height="100" border="1"> <TR> <td></td> <td></td> <td></td> </tr> <TR> <td></td> <td></td> <td></td> </tr> </table> Now we can put some sizes into the table cells. Remember that all the sizes must add up to the main tables width and height otherwise it will go very pearshape. I have gone for the first rows cells to be 100 wide each (giving us 300) and 75 high which means the last row of cells will be 150 each (giving us 300) and 25 high (25+75=100) <Table width="300" height="100" border="1"> <TR> <td width="100" height="75"></td> <td width="100" height="75"></td> <td width="100" height="75"></td> </tr> <TR> <td width="100" height="75"></td> <td width="100" height="75"></td> <td width="100" height="75"></td> </tr> </table> And there we have our first table! We can even populate some text into each cell if you want: <Table width="300" height="100" border="1"> <TR> <td width="100" height="75">Table cell 1</td> <td width="100" height="75">Table cell 2</td> <td width="100" height="75">Table cell 3</td> </tr> <TR> <td width="100" height="75">Table cell 4</td> <td width="100" height="75">Table cell 5</td> <td width="100" height="75">Table cell 6</td> </tr> </table> This is obvioulsy a very simple look at a very simple table and there is so much more to learn, you can span columns and rows which means rather then having 3 cells per row, you could have 1 big one above 3. See here: <Table width="300" height="100" border="1"> <TR> <td colspan=3>Title for this table!</td> </tr> <TR> <td width="100" height="75">Table cell 4</td> <td width="100" height="75">Table cell 5</td> <td width="100" height="75">Table cell 6</td> </tr> </table> There is so much more you can do with tables so I will let you find that out! Never be afraid to ask for help, after all, all of us here have learned from scratch! I just often look at source coding and see how people have done and then sit there and play with it till I break it and then fix it again. eFashion2Go
Anyone, I've been trying CuteSiteBuilder and it's nice but I cannot figure some things out and it's beginning to bug me. So, I started looking around and discovered this place. Is there a software program that will allow me the same use as this site offers? I could create and then transfer it to TCH. Check this site out and let me know, pweeeeease. http://www.citymax.com/ This is what I've come up with goofying around with their services. http://www.free2go.citymax.com/page/page/670086.htm Man, I'm starting to like the colors and what not, sigh, in a perfect world I could create with all of their stuff and host it here at TCH. ANY ideas on how to do that? Create a site to look like this is starting to look and with all the bells and whistles? Sheesh, who wants to pay $19 a month though? If I thought I could seriously drive customers to my site sure but I doubt it that easy, sigh, What software besides CSB will give me the tools to do what their site does? All suggestions are welcome, thanks! http://www.efashion2go.com
TCH-Andy
Hi Tara, Yes, those colours are looking pretty good I would be tempted to copy those onto your hard disk and then look at the html to see what they are doing, you can then modify them for a site here. I'm not sure about the images though - looking at the site some of these may be licensed and without looking in more detail I'm not sure of the copyright issues on the ones you have used. You should be able to re-create the site in CuteSITE builder, adding all the bells and whistles you want. In terms of a program to use. There are a number that will produce basic outlines, fairly quickly, as you have done here. But they tend to be fairly limited when it comes to do adding the bells, whistles, and certainly for search engine optimisation - which is what you need for driving those customers to your site. eFashion2Go
Andy, I cannot believe that I'm actually having fun creating my site. Lol, so, what program is CityMax using? I wonder what it is? Can regular people get ahold of such programs? It's just so damn easy to use! OMG, I LOVE IT! However, $19 a month, I don't love so much, lol! It's actually a decent price. I right clicked and it says, Goliath at the top of the page. Is this the program you think? Have you heard of it before? Brother, sign me up now, lol. Where, what, is this software they have? Okay, I'm Goofy, lack of sleep, and my leg is cramping from sitting at my desk. Check it out people and let me know if you can figure the sotfware/program thing out ... thanks! http://www.efashion2go.com

eFashion2Go
Anyone, I'm trying to make this eBay complient. NO JavaScript Allowed! So, will you look at this and tell me where the JS is by highlighting it? Also, once it's removed, will the HTML still work? Will the page still look and work the same? eFashion2Go
OMG, really? Wow, your FAST!!! How very nice of you to help me, and so quickly! Thank you so much, I was clueless. Let me ask you, if this page links to other pages with this JS, it won't matter will it? It's only the page that I'm trying to place on eBay's site, right? I mean, how could they tell? Hmmm? Thank you! Tara
TCH-JimE
Hi, Oops wrong button, pressed delete rather quote on my own post! I will take a look Tara, now that I see what ebay is asking for. Jim

TCH-JimE
Right, I had done this two ways, all CSS tabless (just to see if I could do it which I can and it made the page about 100 lines shorter!) and a modification of your page. Anyway, here is the latter: ><html> <head> <title> Welcome to eFashion2Go</title> <meta name="keywords" content=""> <meta name="description" content=""> <style> a.link:link {font:bold 12px Arial;color:ffffff; text-decoration:none;} a.link:visited {font:bold 12px Arial;color:ffffff; text-decoration:none;} a.link:hover {font:bold 12px Arial;color:ffffff; text-decoration:none;} td {font:13px arial; color:ffffff;} td.link {padding:2px 10px 2px 10px; cursor:hand;} font.divider {font:12px Arial; color:ffcccc} div.body {font:14px arial; color:ffffff;} a:link {color:ffcccc;} a:visited {color:ff9999;} a:hover {color:ff6666} body {font:13px arial; color:ffffff;} #myMenu { font-family:Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:12px; font-weight: Bold; width: 120px; border: solid black 1px; float: left; } #myMenu span { display: none; visibility: hidden; } #myMenu a { font-family:Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:12px; font-weight: Bold; display: block; width: 100%; border-top: solid black 1px; padding-top: 0.5em; padding-bottom: 0.5em; text-decoration: none; } #myMenu a:link { padding-left: 0.5em; font-family:Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:12px; font-weight: Bold; background-color: ff9999; color: white; } #myMenu a:visited { font-family:Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:12px; font-weight: Bold; background-color: ff9999; color: white; } #myMenu a:hover { font-family:Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:12px; font-weight: Bold; background-color: ff6666; color: white; } #myMenu a:active { background-color:; color:; } .titles { font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-weight: bolder; padding-top: 1em; } </style> </style> </head> <body topmargin=0 bottommargin=0 leftmargin=0 rightmargin=0 marginwidth=0 marginheight=0> <table cellspacing=0 cellpadding="5" bgcolor="ff9999" background="" width=100% height=100%><tr><td valign="top"> <!--TOOLBAR--> <table cellspacing=0 cellpadding="2" bgcolor="000000" border=0 width="100%" height=760 align="left"><tr><td valign="top"> <table cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 border=0 width=100% height=100%> <tr><td valign="top"> <table cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 border=0 width=100% height="100" bgcolor="3a1914"><tr> <td bgcolor="3a1914" background="/r/headers/207/t_header_center.jpg"> <a href="/"> <img src="/r/headers/207/t_header_left.jpg?427935371" width="288" height="100" border=0></a></td> <td bgcolor="3a1914" background="/r/headers/207/t_header_center.jpg" width="100%"></td> </tr></table> <table cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 border=0 width=100% height=100%><tr> <td width="120" valign="top" bgcolor="000000" background=""> <table cellspacing="5" cellpadding=0 border=0 width=100%> <tr> <a href="/page/page/670086.htm" class="link">Home</a> <span>|</span> <a href="/page/page/673058.htm">Contents</a><span>|</span> <a href="/page/page/670087.htm" class="link" >About Us</a><span>|</span> <a href="/page/page/674106.htm" class="link" >Hours of Operation</a><span>|</span> <a href="/page/page/670090.htm" class="link" >Contact Us</a><span>|</span> <a href="/page/page/673206.htm" class="link" >Auctions</a><span>|</span> <a href="/page/page/672600.htm" class="link" >Fashion Gallery</a><span>|</span> <a href="/page/page/670089.htm" class="link" >eStore Policies</a><span>|</span> <a href="/page/page/670088.htm" class="link" >Shipping</a><span>|</span> <a href="/page/page/672798.htm" class="link" >Tell a Friend!</a><span>|</span> <a href="/page/page/672851.htm" class="link" >Message Board</a><span>|</span> <a href="/page/page/672959.htm" class="link" >Calendar</a><span>|</span> <a href="/page/page/672898.htm" class="link" >eFashion2Go Newsletter</a><span>|</span> <a href="/page/page/673099.htm" class="link" o>Autoresponder</a><span>|</span> <a href="/page/page/673213.htm" class="link" o>Guest Book</a><span>|</span> </tr> </table> </td> <td bgcolor="ffffff" valign="top"> <table cellspacing=0 cellpadding="10" border=0 width=100% height=100% background="" bgcolor="000000"><tr><td valign="top" style="padding:10 10"> <font face="arial" size=4><b><div style="font:bold 27px arial;color:#ffcccc"> Welcome to eFashion2Go</div></b></font> <font face="arial" size=3><b><div style="font:bold italic 17px arial;color:#ff6666">Satisfy your passion for fashion!</div></b></font> <font face="arial" size=2> <table cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 border=0 width=100%> <tr> <td valign="top" width=100%><font face="arial" size=2> <P><STRONG></STRONG> </P> <P><STRONG>Beautiful designer fashions for the entire family at 50%-90% below retail! eFashion2Go
Jim, Here's my situation. I joined TCH beacuse they offer a great service at out of this world pricing! I thought, I'll build a website, yippie! Ah, hem, yeah, righto ... sure I could read books on HTML and whatever but the truth is, I really don't have the time. I work and educate my nine year old son at home. There are only so many hours in a day. So, now, signed up with TCH and realize, website building, at least a website I would want to call my own, is a pipe dream. I then, come across this CityMax. It's a way cool place, great for newbies! That's where I've been goofying around with the website your coding. I like CityMax but $19.00 a month, that I don't like. Currently, I do auctions on eBay. I wanted my, "About Me" page to have the appreance of an eStore. So, I was going to try the homepage of the CityMax to see if it would look alright. Then there's the JavaScript limitations. Which your being so kind to help me with. After trying to connect with a source for apparel for a long time, I finally have done it. BIG money needed though. So, every little bit saved helps, hence, TCH. So, now you know my "Website Soga!" Lol, but I'll figure something out! My CityMax trial expires in 6 days. I wish they sold the type of program/software that CityMax is using on their site to create the websites. That's all a person would need to do it all. Then host at TCH! Do they sell stuff like that to anyone? I ramble, I'm tired, since I started this "Website Soga!", I haven't been getting much sleep because I do everything after my son goes to sleep. Sleep, I remember sleep, lol, when you don't know how to do all of this your up ALL night. Anyway, thanks! Tara
TCH-JimE
Hi, Made a little error in the coding above, have corrected it, should now be happy for ebay, if not, post away! Btw whatever you using may be nice and helpful, but the code it produces is 'orrible! Not your fault at all and you will learn all about that kind of thing in time And yes, I have done sleepless nights coding away myself Jim
eFashion2Go
Jim, Hello, eBay accepted it. However, none of the links work, must be because it belongs to CityMax. Sheesh, I guess, I'll just have to pay more because I just don't have the time to learn here. Truth is I really like everyone here but I cannot stay if I really am inept in using the TCH services. Will you please remove my html from the boards now, thank you. Crappy codingm huh? Yeah, it did look so sloppy. My you placed it purrrfectly, thanks! TCH-JimE
Tara, We don't delete anything here because it shows we have nothing to hide. Your content was not sloppy at all, I actually rather enjoyed the refreshing change in colours and way that you had put thing. Yes the pages won't work because of the way that they are done. Dont give up on here! Espically as whilst u throw money at this city program, you wont be able to move the pages to another host when you want too. eFashion2Go
Anyone, The program, and or software that CityMax is using that allows it's customers to build websites so effortlessly, (not knowing how to build them from scratch), Can these be purchased? Not something that helps you make simple templates but rather more like what their offering. Like their catalog, you go there fill in the blanks, and poof, there it is! Created for you and ready to go. That's what I want. I've had fun goofying around with the colors, pictures and stuff but $19 is to much when I an pay $4 but even that is a waste if I cannot create what I'm looking to create in a website. So, what, where and how much do these cost? If you don't know what I'm talking about do a quick run through of their site and then maybe you'll understand better. Okay, I'm rambling, lol. I hope someone knows what I mean and can tell me if they exist. Thanks again, Tara PS- Jim, I didn't write any of that code, their CityMax program/software or whatever did, I just filled in the blanks. Like colors, pics or whatever. I appreciate all of your help, thanks.
TCH-Sales
Your cPanel File Manager does have a WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) editor built in, but past that I'd say pay the money for this type or editor, or take some time to learn some HTML code so you can do it yourself. Sure the second route is a little harder, but it's also free!
eFashion2Go
So, then, there isn't a program you can just stick a CD for instance into your computer and go, go, go? You have to learn all of this stuff? Hey, I don't mind learning it, and have learned a bit but I DO NOT have a lot of extra time to spend learn how to be a tech guru. HTML editors, edit what you put into to them, right? I'm not looking for that. I'm looking for a program and or software that is ALREADY set up. Where you just fill in the blanks, understand? Sigh, it's drag, not knowing how to do all of this and just wanting to get it done. Thanks, Tara
eFashion2Go
Okay, while waiting for someone to reply to my previous post I was examining the code from CityMax. Here it is: <a href="/page/page/670086.htm" class="link"> Home</a> <span>|</span> So, this is a button that is place on the page. It's the Home button. I'm going to try and understand it, here I go. <a href="(IS THE CODE THAT CREATES A LINK.) Right? /page/page/670086.htm (IS WHERE IT'S GOING TO?) class="link">(I HAVE NO IDEA, IT ENDS THE TAG?) </a> (IT STOPS SOMETHING BUT I COULDN'T TELL YOU WHAT) <span>|</span>(CLUELESS, SPACE BETWEEN BUTTONS?) Sigh, you see, all of that work just to comprehend this one small button. Ahhhhhhh, I'm doomed, lol! Well, was I at least, close? TCH-Sales
Only thing that's free these days is knowledge.. and that is changing everyday. eFashion2Go
Lol, that was helpful? Anyway, it appears NO one knows of the program that CityMax is using because I cannot get someone to reply directly to that question, although I've asked it several times. IF someone out there understands what I'm asking about CityMax/their program, I'd really appreciate a real answer, thanks. Tara

TCH-Don
Tara, what problems did you have with CuteSite Builder? TCH-Sales
IF someone out there understands what I'm asking about CityMax/their program, I'd really appreciate a real answer, thanks. Yes, we are all capable of understanding you, but the program they are probably using was (and I'm only guessing) developed by them, for them. Not something you can just buy. As turtle suggested you should give CuteSite Builder a second try, because it has a lot of simplicity to it as well. Here's some beginner's HTML: ><a href="http://www.totalchoicehosting.com">Total Choice Web Hosting</a> ><a href= Starts the code. >"http://www.totalchoicehosting.com" is what you are linking to Total Choice Web Hosting is the text that is being linked ></a> tell you to stop the link. eFashion2Go
So, know one knows then? Oh, well, I tried. Why is something like CSB what CityMax used? I mean, how does one create a catalog they have and maintain it? Is CSB going to do that for me? You see, you'd have to ALREADY know the coding for the catalog, wouldn't ya? Yesssssss, you would. So, is the a program that will preform like the CityMax website preforms, and where can it be purchased? Am I speaking English here? Yeah, I think I am? Lol, help? If I'm a bit bitchy, I apologize but I do not understand why I cannot get a straight forward answer about CityMax/aprogram like theirs/etc., sigh. TCH-Don
this site made with Trellix ( now Cutesite Builder) has a cart, http://www.swgalleries.com This site made by our own kw, shows you can have a cart or catalog. eFashion2Go
What your dealing with guys is a gal who knows nothing about all of this, is a bit of a perfectionist and wants to "get it done", but can't. It's NOT your fault, your trying to help, and are very nice. So, my apologies to you. I'm just going bananas trying to understand all of this and "get it done", I feel like it's going to take 4 years of college before I'll be able to create a "professional" looking website. Okay, I was just browsing the TCH site and came across this post about a Gallery, I couldn't believe it, there it is right in front of my eyes. Someone was taking about their gallery, about loading it to their space or whatever it's called. So, is that it then, the gallery is just this nice little script/coding that you upload to your space and then it functions and you use it from there? So, I wouldn't have to know how to write a "gallery" or "catalog" script, just transfer it to my space? Then comes this question, how do you know "where" to place it within your space? Like if you want your gallery to appear on page 4 of your website, gosh, I know so little about this stuff, I'm not sure I'm even askiing my questions properly. Damn, this is frustrating. Big, sigh. eFashion2Go
It's me again, okay, is this it then? They have the catalog, guestbook, autoresponder, contents, caledar, message boards, tell a friend scripts are all separate scripts, INTEGRATED (linked together), is that it then? It's not a program containg all ofthese types of scripts, it's more they are using them all together? So, I would just gether these scripts, customize them (if possible) and upload them to my space? Yes? No? Maybe? Lol, Tara

Right? yes the <a href=" is the code for starting a link /page/page/670086.htm (IS WHERE IT'S GOING TO?)You got it, /page/page/670086.htm is the home page, since the page being linked to is within this site and not an external link it doesnt need the http://www.blahblahblah, it just needs the relative path (the path to the file in relation to the location of the file the link is on) class="link">(I HAVE NO IDEA, IT ENDS THE TAG?) this is just what is says, this little section of code is a link </a> (IT STOPS SOMETHING BUT I COULDN'T TELL YOU WHAT)yes this stops something, the clue is the a, the beginning of your code was <a href=" (that opened the code) the </a> closes it so that your browser knows that the code for this particular link stops here. <span>|</span>(CLUELESS, SPACE BETWEEN BUTTONS?) This is probably part of the table code, you can make tables span horizontaly and veitcally
eFashion2Go
LMAO! I didn't read the disclaimer first and I was thinking, damn, A Bug's Life is never going to sell, lol, it's way over priced! Oh, man, I slay myself. No, currently I don't have an online anything. I auction apparel at eBay and in the next 6 months expect to pick my volume up because I've made a sourcing connection. So, I'm now, trying, very hard to figure out and create a professional looking website, with a cool store like the one you showed me. I feel like Dorthy in The Wizard of Oz because all of this is very confusing and strange to me. However, I want to learn enough so I can creat my own site. No pain, no gain, gotta learn it to reap the results. Yes, that's a very nice store and if it can be customized with color, (mine' s a peachy/pink) then all the better. Is is free? Or if not, how much? Will someone answer my questions directly, the ones up above about collecting these scripts, etc., pweeeeease. Is this what a person does? Thanks, Tara
eFashion2Go
LMAO, oh, you DID answer my questions! I NEED a vacation! Tara
leezard
the store i showed you is free, its installed from the control panel for your site here at TCH, its under additionl scripts in the CGI scripts section and its called OS commerce. If it doesnt happen to be there, one of the support gurus can install it on your server. Installation is easy, it asks you to put it an admin username and password (which you choose) then it asks you for a directory to install it to (i used sample as the directory) then you click install and its done. eFashion2Go
You guys are either psychic or we are posting at the same time. It's a good thing I was sitting down when I read the post about TCH having ALL of these scripts. Really? We get to use them too? If this is true, I feel like I just received a "get out of jail free" card! I feel like crying, gosh, this scripting, coding, and what not is so difficult. Hey, but I did understand the lil' button code, lol, well kind of! It's a start! Man, you people are so nice to help me, I really appreciate it! I'm going for more coffee, need it, staying up late trying to learn this stuff, and it's killing me, lol! I'm coming back to learn more about all of these scripts TCH has and how to use them, customize them, etc. You know, I'm about to become a walking commercial for TCH. I use an auction site to lauch my auctions, it's a new site too, and it also has really nice people. One guy runs the whole thing and he's down to earth like TCH and the price, well, enough said, it's great! There are a lot of people there who are looking for website hosting and help, and since you are so nice and helpful, I'll be sending them here. Hey, does anyone do IM here? It's faster. I'm currently on Yahoo under Magie_Noire8 Okay, brb, and hopefully, I'll see your reply. Thanks, Tara
eFashion2Go
Guys, I just left this post at my auction management site. It's a new site with a little over 10, 000 members. Titled: Get Out Of Jail Free!!! Everyone, OMG, I can't believe it! This place I signed up with to host my site, Total Choice Hosting, well, they're a lot like SD, in so far as they are really down to earth and helpful, and the beginner hosting is only $4.00 a month. Anyway, I was just talking with the moderators who ahve been helping me, and they have ALL of these scripts, and we get install them for FREE!!! I can't believe it! I'm so excited! [] Between Sd and TCH I feel so lucky to have discovered both sites. If you guys need a reliable, family oriented site full of great people and features, you've gotta check out TCH!!! http://www.totalchoicehosting.com They DO NOT offer a referal program. So, I'm telling you to check them out purely because of their product and customer support. Okay, I'm going back to TCH now, gotta goooooo. http://www.efashion2go.com TCH staff, this is my way, of saying thank you and because TCH ROCKS!!! eFashion2Go
Guys, Gosh, it's so embarrasing to have to keep asking you questions. Remember when you tell me something don't assume I know what your talking about because most of the time I don't, lol, sad but true. Is there a place we can go to view all of these cool scripts in action? Okay, now my face is blushing, sigh, I imagined this cpanel as a bunch of different buttons each serving a different function and it's somehwere located on the TCH site but I'm getting the impression that I'm way off base. Please talk in this girl knows nothing talk when you reply, and if you already are talking in that language then please downgrade to this girl really, really knows nothing talk. Once again, thanks! Tara
leezard
ok your cpanel is where you control all of your sites functions. If you already ave an account with TCH to access the cpanel go to www.yoursitename.com/cpanel it will ask you for a username and password (these were provided in the welcome e-mail you recieve when you sign up) there is a LOT of info in cpanel but it is broken down into groups like e-mail, subdomains, add on scripts etc. the part you'll want to lok at is the CGI scripts, thats where all the cool stuff is like that online store i showed you. Everything you see in cpanel is included in your monthly plans fee...so you can install ANY of the scripts there at no extra charge.
TCH-Don
And after you have your web site up and running, You can add forums like this one or a guestbook. Also you can add other scripts that you find, like the Gallery we posted about earlier, which is a photo gallery. At my previous host, I just had space, no scripts or tools. So you can imagine, when I came here and saw all the goodies, I was like a kid at candy store that had just been told, "help your self" Dance I have added most of the goodies to my site (built with Cutsite Builder). And there are lots of family members here to help. you may want to take another crack at cutesite builder, its roots are very much like the on site builder you like. There are lots of us here using it that can help.
eFashion2Go
Aw, you guys are so damn nice!!! Now, I feel as gushy inside, lol, thanks. So, my .com is registered with GoDaddy.com and I have it I think, it's called, "pointed" to my "About Me" page at eBay. So, I "point" it here now? Is where I send it in that welcome email? I'll go check my email again and see if I can understand it better after your help. Once again, your the best! Tara
TCH-JimE
Tara, You will need to ask godaddy.com to point your new domain name to: ns1.totalchoicehosting.com ns2.totalchoicehosting.com This will mean that your domain name will point to your web hosting account here at Total Choice Hosting. I am a self confessing perfectionist, especially when it comes to web site design in CSS alone. What you do need in all of this is patience. I still sit at my computer at times, lean forward and bang my head on my desk. It doesn't help much but shows you that we all suffer from fustration! All the scripts you where talking about are here at total choice hosting for free. Each comes with good documentation and of course help here from staff and fellow total choice hosting clients. The OS commerce is a very good package and you can see how good it is at there site. Its never bad to ask questions, so don't stop asking them! eFashion2Go
Red Alert! - Red Alert! - Red Alert! Capt. Kirk: "Scotty, I told you I need those engines working!" Scotty: "Yes, Captain!" Whip Scotty: "I'll have her working again, even if I have to get out and push!" Thumbs Up Lol, so guys, I went to GoDaddy and had my .com pointed to the address you told me about. Is that what I was suppose to do? I'm thinking no because now when you put in my addy your domain comes up. Also, when I try and login, the page never does load and when it does it says, "Access denied" Boo hoo, I wanna see the way cool stuff!!! So, "beam me up guys!" TCH-JimE
Hi Tara, Ok, first things first, go back to godaddy.com and change it back to the original address and I shall explain everything. I) What you had done is "redirect" your domain. This means that rather then looking at a certain place which will then correctley show your domain name, its just "pointing" at a website, in this case ours! II) What you need to change is the nameservers. In this case, at current, both your name servers are park5.secureserver.net. [64.202.161.137] [TTL=172800] park6.secureserver.net. [64.202.163.9] [TTL=172800] when they should be: ns1.totalchoiceshosting.com ns2.totalchoiceshosting.com Now for the non scientific bit on whats going on: When you buy a domain name, the exact location of where this domain is must be located on 2 servers by regulations laid out. Therefore, at present, yours is on Park5 and Park6. Once this is located, its possible then to do serveral things. The 1st one which you have is to send vistors to another place. This is often known as forwarding or redirecting. This is not what your wanting to do. You can also cloak the name which does something similar below but its best to avoid cloaking. The second is where the domain name interrogates the 2 servers and says "help where do I send this visitor but make sure they don't know?". The servers then reply back "Http://serverX.totalchoicehosting.com/~whatever/" at which point your browser brings up your lovely pages. So go back to godaddy and change your nameservers to ours above. When you have done this, start a help ticket and let us know. Also note this process to move them will take about 72 hours. This is the normal amount of time in all cases when doing this. Its best to move them now then later when you have loads of traffic! eFashion2Go
Okay, while I'm searching around the site I come accross this info. "We have servers in datacenters in Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Georgia and Texas. We colocate in multiple datacenters for a very simple reason. That reasons being - If we had all our servers in lets say nac.net and that data center caught on fire then we would have THOUSANDS of customers down. Makes no sense." Alrighty! I was born in Georgia! I grew up in Michigan! All my family on my father's side is from/lives in Texas! New Jersey where my ex is from, so, don't stick me there. Lol! Ohio, well, growing up in Michigan, you learn that their football team sux and they can't drive! Lol, so don't send me there. Sigh, I need sleep! Anyone find out why I can't login? Thanks! eFashion2Go
Okay, it's working now. I just left it pointing at your domain. I don't have anything listed and the only people who will maybe see it are people who use the same auction service I do. So, free advertising for you! In a Mae West type voice: "So, your asking for my number, huh?" "Lol, your a smoother operator, didn't take you long." PM you where? Hmmm, mystery man, and where would that be? eFashion2Go
Anyone, Hello, I keep trying to log into my cpanel but it won't login. I've even used the welcome email links and it still won't log in. Also, is there a book or somewhere to go to learn the basics? I mean, I really don't understand much once I'm inside and can view my cpanel. The cgi scripts, we can get a script and then add/load it to our site? How do I do this? I've been looking at some scripts and that little bit of coding runs an entire page or whatever, like a classified script. It's hard to believe that it does that but I guess it does, please let me know. Well, I'm either going to learn this or chuck it. I appreciate your help, thanks. eFashion2Go
Anyone, I'm at the osCommerce website. I'm checking it out and trying to learn about it, understand it. I really just want to create, personalize and get a store up and running. If this is already installed into our cpanel, if this is correct, then how do we access it and create a store front? I don't mind educating myself about all of this, however, I don't want to take weeks, months trying to figure it all out, I'm not interested in becoming a guru. I want to learn the basics, have a general understanding, and get it done! So, tell me about this osCommerce and what I need to do to create a store. STEP 1) ? STEP 2) ? STEP 3) ? ... and so on, and so on ... if this is already located in detail on these boards just point me in the right direction. I appreciate all of your help, thanks.
