In general, too many submissions may seem like spamming the engines so be careful you don't overdo it.

I just got a site there and it took about 4 months.

Dmoz is a whole different ballgame.

First, each time you submit you are bounced to the bottom of the queue. Think about this, maybe each time your were just about to be 'looked at' and then you resubmitted and automatically got bumped all the way to the bottom. Therefore, only submit once.

A real person reviews all sites; if your particular area is large... can take longer then 8 months (the editors are very overworked).

I had a bit of trouble with a site where there was no editor.

I submitted once, wrote down the date.. waited four weeks... and contacted the editor.

On the fifth week, I submitted again, waited two weeks, then contacted the editor of the next highest category.

After hearing nothing, I found this thread on another forum

This forum welcomes general discussion and advice on getting listed in the Open Directory, what the benefits are and its relationship with other directories and search engines. Need advice on how to become an editor, or what the ODP Guidelines mean? Ask away!

But please don't ask us why your site was rejected, or whether your submission was safely received. The Open Directory Public Forum at http://resource-zone.com handles those types of query.

Please don't ask why you are now an ex-editor. Only ODP meta-editors know that and they keep all such details strictly confidential.

If you suspect that an editor is abusing the directory, please report it at http://inelegant.org/report-abuse/. Neither specific accusations, nor generalised attacks on editors will be tolerated here.

While ODP editors may be happy to describe life inside Dmoz, they may be prevented from answering some specific questions by ODP privacy rules:

http://dmoz.org/guidelines/communication.html#privacy.

I signed up at the dmoz forum and very politely, in a short post, requested some feedback on what was going on... the response was quick.

The site is now listed.

If you use the forum, I suggest keeping your question short, simple, and nice. These folks determine what you get and when you get it on dmoz.

Another tip, when submiting your site to a section, check to be sure it has and active editor!

If it does not, consider becoming an editor! There is a huge backlog of stuff - the category I volunteered for had some submissions that were 2 and a half years old!

So if getting listed sooner rather than later REALLY matters to you consider volunteering. You have to edit other sites in your category fairly, but you get input into your final description, get it done faster and get to learn about your collaborators/competition.

We make want to add a help section on this topic. :D

This has been true for a very long time... very good advice. I also feel many of the responsible people here at TotalChoice would make excellent editors.

Thanks Musicfrisk.
