leezard Posted July 30, 2003 Posted July 30, 2003 I'm seriously concidering trying to start my own business, with my hardware review website i have some EXCELLENT contacts in the hardware world, and think i could use that to my advantage. Anyway, does anyone have any good links or info on government loans/grants for starting a small business? Any info or advice would be appreciated. If you dont want to post it here feel free to e-mail me at mike@x-trememodz.com Thanks Quote
TCH-Rob Posted July 30, 2003 Posted July 30, 2003 I cant really say, I am having my wife look into it as she has a better chance of getting a grant. My supplier just started drop-shipping so I have no min order anymore and I still get it at wholesale like I would from the manufacturer, same price. Quote
TCH-JimE Posted July 30, 2003 Posted July 30, 2003 Leezard, Which country are you in? Stateside? Jim Quote
surefire Posted July 30, 2003 Posted July 30, 2003 Leezard, If you are in the states, then it helps if part of your company is minority owned. That's what Critical Mass meant about his wife having a better chance. Also, I would make friends with a good loan officer at a small local bank. They can help you get the loan. Quote
leezard Posted July 30, 2003 Author Posted July 30, 2003 Yeah, my wife is going to be the one applying for the loan, and yes I am in the states Quote
Lianna Posted August 3, 2003 Posted August 3, 2003 In Missouri, there is an agency (actually a set of agencies) that helps to procure grants, loans and the like for small businesses just trying to get started. Maybe your state has some similar agencies. The three leads that pop into my head right off the top are: East Missouri Action Agency (funded by state and fed sources with all kinds of programs from paying your electric bill if you need help to providing startup costs to new small businesses.) Regional Planning and Economic Development Commission (example, visit http://semorpc.org - hosted by yours truly) The secretary of state website for your state. Normally this is where you can find small business programs being offered by your state. For example, again in Missouri: http://www.sos.mo.gov/business/outreach/ Oh, just found this one as linked from the Missouri Sec'y of State site: http://www.sbaonline.sba.gov/ United State Small Business Administration (financing links there too). Hope all that helps somehow. Good Luck! Quote
leezard Posted August 3, 2003 Author Posted August 3, 2003 thanks for the tips and linkage, still debating on whether to do it or not. Quote
eFashion2Go Posted August 8, 2003 Posted August 8, 2003 leezard, Here are a few links that may help. Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov/ CFDA http://www.cfda.gov/ I've personally thought about it myself but I don't know, it looks tough. I'm still going to research it though, can'y hurt, right? Good luck! Tara http://www.efashion2go.com Quote
