Head Guru
Howdy, Thought I would post in the Hardware forums about my plunge back into AMD goodness. Going to build a new PC for myself. Here are the specs. CPU AMD2500+/333 ATHLON XP BARTON Retail Boxed Motherboard Epox EP-8RDA+ With the nForce2 chipset Yea Yea, I bought a Epox. I personally think they are awesome boards. HD (Going with IDE Raid) (2) 80GB Western Digital 7200RPM 8MB Cache WD800JB Is there any other drive to buy rather than WD CDRW LITEON 52X32X52X CDRW Black This will be my 3rd or 4th Liteon CDRW. They all have been excellent DDRAM (2) 512MB DDR400 CAS 2 PC3200 Kingston I really like the Kingston Modules. I have had great luck in servers with them. VIDEO VGA ATI XPERT2000 PRO 32MB 4X AGP I am not a gamer! ATI is all thats spoken in the Kish household. CASE Enermax 10B M ATX CS-3051L-B3A My personal favorite case maker, although Antec and Codegen have always done well for me. It will run Linux and Windows 2000 Dual Boot. I will get some photos of the build when I am done. Just for fun! What amazes me, is out the door with overnight delivery. I am under $800 for the entire build. newegg.com has great pricing btw. AtomicVPp
Not to bash WesternDigital at all. I have this 60gig hard drive from them that when I create large files or move large files it crashes and the master boot record gets messed up. It also corrupts files sometimes. I have found a program that can fix the MBR: TestDisk It works really well and is easy to use. -Tim
Mav2u
I like the Western Digital HDD's. I have all four computers running them and only one has failed because a power supply blew and it took the board and HDD controller on the Western Digital. I called Western Digital and had a new drive in the mail within 3 days, sent the old one back and went on with my life. I now buy the 8mb versions of Western Digital since they have the three warranty now. All others only have a 1 year now as do most other manufacturers. Oldes Western Digital is in my 233 mhz, running darn near 24 hrs a day 365 days a year since June 1997. Any Maxtor I've purchased with out the liquid bearings has died within about 2 yrs or less. That goes for my friends who have purchased them also. Not sure if it's just bad luck or what but I don't buy them anymore. You could have spent a little more on the video card and got an ATI All in wonder version. That way you could watch tv on the computer or edit video or anything if the need ever arised. But at least it's not onboard video! Mav
DConley
I will have to openly admit that I have never played a game on my computer.... I do, however, have every gaming console known to man... lol Excellent specs Bill, and for that price, you can't really go wrong. Thumbs Up
