shelvy
I'm a total newbie. Just set up an account and might even be posting to the wrong forum -- if so, I apologize. Anyway, my question is concerning email accounts. I have had fits trying to set up a POP3 account, and none of my attempts hae worked. Will one of my email accounts be simply a way readers can click, send a message, without me having POP 3? Shelvy
TCH-Thomas
Welcome to the forum, Shelvy. I am not sure I understand your question, but you can either use pop3, imap or the webmail. If it´s about how to set up an email client, such as outlook, thunderbird etc please see the tutorials for different email clients here. You can also use webmail by going to your-tch-domain.com/webmail which would be the easiest to use to send/receive emails without having to use either pop/impa (ie not downloading them to your own computer). TCH-Bruce
Welcome to the forums Shelvy Or are you wanting to put an email address on a web page for someone to click to send you a message? I'm sort of lost knowing what you are looking to do as well.
shelvy
Sorry, I'm new at this. What I'm wanting to do is be able to have the reaeder click somewhere, a blank email form pops up, and there they can write a letter of comment on my online zine which will then go to some place I can receive and read it. TCH-Bruce
Still not clear but it sounds like you want a forms processing script. What are you using for your online zine, maybe we can tell you more that way.
shelvy
I don't use Outlook Express, by the way; that's the POP3 server I was never able to set up. I went online and found I could download Eudora for email. Any cautions about Eudora? Shelvy
TCH-Bruce
Eudora is an email program. They are all safe to use if you don't open attachments from sources you don't know and make sure javascipt and any other scripting functionality is turned off. Is this what you are trying to set up? It has nothing to do with forms for others to send you email or submit anything. Here are instructions for setting up Eudora.
TCH-Bruce
What is your domain name?

Shelvy Just to help clarify some of the terms you are using and to help when you ask other questions Outlook is not a POP3 server, it is an Email CLIENT as is Eudora and Thunderbird. POP3 is the protocol used to send or receive email and IMAP is another protocol used. The Email SERVER in this case would be located at TCH and it supports both of these protocols so either one may be used. You can specify either one in your email clients to send and receive email from your domain. A server is usually the remote computer which stores things or handles requests from client computers (yours). It receives and holds the email for your domain and you use a program to receive or read the mail. A protocol is a standard or language that is used to help computers communicate with each other. That helps! As I've said (and is QUITE obvious!) I'm a newbi at this. I have one further question regarding email: How do I go about informing TCH as to what Server I want to handle my email from my readers? ThanxaLOT! TCH-Andy
You would generally just use your domain name for sending emails ( via POP). If I've guessed your domain name correctly, then your server is stormtrooper.tchmachines.com ( you should be able to see the server name in cpanel, on the left had side, when you are logged in )

And I'm not familiar with cpanel; saw something I could click on to get movies explaining it. Guess I'd better try! Shelby
TCH-Thomas
Unless you are planning on using a 3rd party email solution, emails goes to the server you are on here at TCH as Andy says, so there are nothing you need to inform TCH regarding your email. Only thing you need to do is to set up the email addresses through your servers cpanel and then configure the email client you want to use (webmail excluded since it´s already configured when you have set up the address).
