The Blue Screen

I just installed a new motherboard.

 

Put in the hard drive and when I turn it on I get this:

 

 

a problem has been found and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer

 

technical info:

 

STOP: 0x00000087b ( 0xF7966640, 0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000 )

 

I slaved the hard drive to my pc and ran virus check. Found and removed one trojan downloader.

 

I removed the ram and put in a stick from another pc that is running fine.

 

I unhooked both dvd and the cdrom so that only the hard drive was hooked up.

 

Same blue death screen.

 

It also has a brand new power supply.

 

( I just built one exactly the same for another client that runs great. Same motherboard, same p.supply. )

 

When I took the hdrive out of the other one that runs great, it starts going to windows then restarts the bios post.

 

I put the other clients hdrive back in and it only goes to the blue screen.

 

any ideas on this anyone? MADMAN???

 

I am going to think on it awhile and check back.

You may have to re-install windows. I have heard that windows uses some of the bios information from the MB and that could be the problem....but Madman will know for sure

Hey Mike, yeah I'm afraid you may need to reinstall winders, that would be my first guess. Its not always a good idea to use a hard drive thats been installed on another PC, and yes a new motherboard is the same as a different PC. The blue screen is some driver problem, its loading a driver for something on the old motherboard and it causing issues.

 

So fdisk and format and install Windows fresh and see if that corrects it. If it doesn't you may have a flaky MB.

Thanks Bob, I had a feeling you would say that so I will see If he has the windows disk.

It's out of a Dell so he probably has a recovery disk at least.

Hmmm, I hope he has a Windows disk cause I'm not 100% sure the recovery type disk will be what you need. A "Recovery CD" is usually just an image of the hard drive after everything is loaded onto the computer. You will end up with a computer hard drive looking exactly as it did when you first turn it on after purchase. The drivers you are possibly having problems with will still be there.
