Bob Crabb Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 On one of my sites, I have two phpBB2 (release 2.0.22) message boards. I was looking at the cpanel file manager for the site, and just noticed that a few sub directories in each of them were set with permissions at 777. I know for sure that I had those folders set at 755. This kindof freaked me out. I checked the contents of each of them, did not see any "extra gifts" planted there, and changed the permissions back to 755. The site was on a server that was migrated to TCH NOC last weekend, and after the migration I noticed that some old MYSQL databases that I had previously deleted reappeared (I noticed this on a site that was migrated this weekend as well). I wonder if perhaps the same phenomenon relates to the folder permissions, since at one time (several months ago), those sub directories had been set to CHMOD 777. Quote
Head Guru Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 I have asked Dick to forward this issue on to Vivek for review and response. They will follow up directly. Quote
TCH-Vivek Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 I checked your account that was previously on server110 (now abraxas) and couldn't find any directories with 777 permission. I guess you changed it back. Well, I reviewed the backup that was used to restore the account and couldn't find any such folders there as well. It could be somehow related to the script that cpanel uses to restore permission and ownership on files/folders after restoring home directories, but I need to double check this. For further investigation, I would need the locations of the directories in question and the databases that reappeared. Can you open a trouble ticket with the above details and request them to escalate it to me. Thanks! Quote
Bob Crabb Posted April 23, 2007 Author Posted April 23, 2007 Bill and Vivek, Thank you for the replies. Vivek, I submitted a ticket this morning, and asked that it be forwarded to you. I hope that I adequately explained the scenario in the ticket, but if you have any questions or need clarification, please let me know. Just to clarify what I saw, the site that was on 110 did not have any folders set at 777 (before or after), but I did see some databases re-appear that I had deleted. The change in folder permissions appeared on the site that was on 107, and I listed the exact details of which folders were involved in the trouble ticket. Thinking back though this, I am certain that all the folders that appeared with changed permissions were, at one time, set with permissions at 777, but I changed them to 755 several months ago ( I think June 2006). TCH-Vivek Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Thanks Bob! The mysql thing has been already taken care of as we discussed. it is no way related to the permission issue. I will review accounts after migration of next batch of servers to figure out the permission issue though it doesn't appear to be a server wide issue. Quote
