geice
pictures in my forum? If they change IPs all the time and post I AM A SPAMMER links several times a day? Can a police do something about it, or can I file a lawsuit or do anything to bring them down? What can one do to shut down this activity (other than shut the forum down)? Head Guru
What type of photos? Is your forum open to the public? Do you have a TOS? Have you given written notice to the offenders ISP?

You probably should put in some kind of captcha option - chances are it's not a real person, but some spambot. I get hit by them on occasion, but between the image verification stuff and akismet (among other tools), 99% don't get through.
LF from MC
Hi quice. A friend of mine, Gail, is an Admin on my forum, it's not all that active, but was getting spamers, so she set up a space on the forum, where someone registers, and after they registers, they are taken to this space, and that's all they see. there is a message in there, asking them to type in a few words, why they want to learn HTML. Then you can accept them or not, and so far, we haven't gotten anymore spamers. I'm sure someone wanting to add I AM A SPAMMER links, isn't likely going to bother you much, and you won't get any spambots. Guest can see the forum, until they register, and once they are accepted, the forum is opened to them.
geice
What type of photos? Is your forum open to the public? Do you have a TOS? Have you given written notice to the offenders ISP? All kinds of I AM A SPAMMER photos. They use anonymous proxies each time so it's not possible to track them down. They'd come in under a new IP every time, post 10-15 pics and leave. Normally they'd get tired of this in 2-3 days and leave the forum alone, so it's not a real big problem, but what I want to know if there's a law about that, so I can send them a message that what they're doing is illegal, so they stop it right away. Trolls...
TCH-Dick
I say you track them down and beat them with their own keyboard.
austin
No, those are real. Sometimes they actually respond to the threads. Trolls... wow, you have some dedicated spammers. If you have some kind of akismet option, and assuming they are posting form spam, that might be able to help you - it catches a lot on my forums. Can a police do something about it, or can I file a lawsuit or do anything to bring them down? What can one do to shut down this activity (other than shut the forum down)? Wow George, it's funny you should ask this, because I help run a large forum and have had an individual who has been doing this exact same thing! In fact, I found this forum by searching the domain he originally registered under, etheria.net. What a coincidence, huh? That's your site! To answer your question, yes, you can actually bring legal action against someone who repeatedly posts disgusting "scat" I AM A SPAMMER on your website. I know this because the forums I help run are owned by a large corporation with a skilled legal team, who has been looking into this matter since it started. Luckily, the person who has been repeatedly trolling my site actually sent us an email, again from etheria.net, admitting that he was the person doing this and would continue to do it unless we reinstated his account. Good luck with your spammer, friend! I'm happy to know that we'll be dealing with ours in a swift fashion in the coming days! Cheers!
