I would like to set up a membership area on my site, one where people would need to pay a small fee to access. I am not a programmer, so I'm pretty limited to what I can do. Does anyone know of a free or really cheap program? Or even some suggestions as to how I can do this? I would even consider doing this as a newsletter, but I would have to somehow set up one for each state and that seems like a big pain in the butt.

If creating a membership site, I would go with joomla (a content management system), which can be found in cpanels fantastico section.

Well, I have two ways I think I can do this. 1. Have a site where there are certain pages that only members can access where I will be posting events and they will search by area. 2. I send out a newsletter type email for each state to the members in that area.

 

I the newsletter route seems like a lot of work, but might be easier on the subscription end. I don't know. I'd much rather just update the website when needed and have them log in when they want to check it out.

Setting up a mailing list to send out news letters is pretty simple. I personally use Dada mail. The simplest way to password protect an area of your site is to use a htpasswd file.
