kjarrett Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Is anyone else having issues with Wordpress blogs hosted at TCH? I just posted this longish support request @ wordpress.org: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/91600 I realize TCH does not support third party scripts so I am not going to submit a ticket. I just find it really odd that several of my blogs, all hosted here, have the exact same problem - and I've not changed a thing on most of them. The Zoo blog was going to launch today. Thanks in advance, -kj-
TCH-Bruce Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 I run 3 personal WP sites, my wife has 2 and I've never had any problems. You say you were editing the theme to add something. Did you back up the theme before editing it? Are you editing on the server or off-site and uploading?
kjarrett Posted October 23, 2006 Author Posted October 23, 2006 I run 3 personal WP sites, my wife has 2 and I've never had any problems. You say you were editing the theme to add something. Did you back up the theme before editing it? Are you editing on the server or off-site and uploading? I've never had any problems either, Bruce, and have been running WP here on TCH for several years. The issue is happening on ALL MY BLOGS on Server 316 (several for school as well as my own personal blog). I have another blog on server 53 that is not affected. Screenshots: This is how it is supposed to look: (server 53 is unaffected) http://www.ncs-nj.org/temp/server53-ok.gif This is how it looks on server 316: http://www.ncs-nj.org/temp/server316-not-ok.gif This confirms the file referenced above as "missing" is in fact present: http://www.ncs-nj.org/temp/server316-cpanel.gif Sounds to non-technical me that a some sever-wide database setting is muffed. Should I open a ticket? -kj-
kjarrett Posted October 23, 2006 Author Posted October 23, 2006 BTW I just double-confirmed this is happening on all my blogs on Server 316. That's the common thread. Some of these have been closed and not changed for months. I know you all don't support third party scripts but should I open a ticket anyway?
TCH-Bruce Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 I would open a ticket. Another thing I would try would be reinstall WP manually.
kjarrett Posted October 23, 2006 Author Posted October 23, 2006 I would open a ticket. Another thing I would try would be reinstall WP manually. Ticket opened...thanks for your help. I'd try a WP reinstall as a test but I can't from school as we have FTP blocked. -kj-
musicfrisk Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Ticket opened...thanks for your help. I'd try a WP reinstall as a test but I can't from school as we have FTP blocked. -kj- It's good to hear it's not just me: Wordpress' response to everything is that I should use a wordpress authorized host. I think they need to be more transparant - that aside, this problem is stil lnot rectified and it is also recent, I have opened a ticket - but even with several valiant efforts I have gotten nowhere yet. http://wordpress.org/support/topic/90641?r...s=4#post-462811 A fresh look at this issue would be appreciated. Again my problem is that I can not send an outbound ping of any sort.
heyguy Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 It's good to hear it's not just me Well, maybe. Sounds like two different problems to me, but that doesn't mean they aren't related somehow. Which server are you on? 316? The first thing to do is take Bruce's advise and reinstall WP - do it through Fantastico if you want and if that doesn't work do it manually. If a fresh install doesn't work and you're sure you didn't change anything, then it's fair to ask the help desk guys. I think the most obvious question is a simple "what has changed in the last two weeks?" If you can provide the exact date that everything broke, even better. Maybe there was a PHP upgrade that mostly doesn't hurt anything, but it turns out to hurt some small function buried in WP. Maybe a cPanel upgrade to fix one thing ended up breaking another (Squirrel Mail on 34, I'm looking at you...). Maybe some files were moved or restored for some reason and the ownership of the files is all messed up. WP is a solid script that I've been using for years, so don't be too hard on those guys over at wordpress.org. And don't be too hard on the TCHers either, because I'm sure if a change was made, it was made for the greater good and not to break your script.
kjarrett Posted October 23, 2006 Author Posted October 23, 2006 (edited) *CONFIRMED* *BRAND-NEW WORDPRESS 2.0.4 INSTALL VIA FTP NOT FANTISTICO HAS THE EXACT SAME ISSUE* *NO PLUGINS - JUST THE BASE CODE* SCREENSHOT: http://www.ncs-nj.org/temp/server316-test-...install-bad.gif YES I KNOW I AM USING ALL CAPS I AM EXTREMELY UPSET - WE MISSED A LAUNCH TODAY BECAUSE OF THIS I KNOW THE TCH TEAM IS WORKING ON THE ISSUE AS WE SPEAK, GO TEAM GO THANK YOU ALL ARRRRRRHGGGGGHGHG!!!! AAAACCCCCKKKK PTHHHHFFFFFPPPTT!!!! (hairball) Edited October 23, 2006 by kjarrett
TCH-Bruce Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 This was a fresh download of WP from their site, correct? Not one you have been installing from where you are experiencing the same thing. If so it's time for a trip to the help desk and make sure you explain that you have done a clean install with the same results.
heyguy Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 That's a weird one for sure. Do let us know what the HD says if they figure it out.
kjarrett Posted October 23, 2006 Author Posted October 23, 2006 No need for another test. I have a dozen blogs on that server some of which haven't been touched for months and every one I checked has the exact same issue. Help Deskers are already on the job. I just hope they fix it soon. They always come through in the end. Fingers crossed...
TCH-Bruce Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 I've been working with Dick on this issue. I had the same results installing manually and through Fantastico. It is being worked on.
kjarrett Posted October 24, 2006 Author Posted October 24, 2006 It's 9pm EDT, I'm off to bed, will be up around 3am, hoping for an update between now and then ... peace y'all -kj-
kjarrett Posted October 24, 2006 Author Posted October 24, 2006 Update: No resolution yet and tech support now wants me to "contact the vendor." I'm running a production server here guys for a 1,100 student K-8 school with a dozen blogs and we've been a customer since 2003. Guys, come on. I just referred a new customer to TCH this week for a Wordpress blog I've proposed to build and maintain for their organization. Did I make a mistake? There has to be a fix. HELP....
TCH-Thomas Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 I don´t know if this will help, but here goes... I just tried to set up a testblog, fresh install on server 365. When I look in the presentation area of the admin, I see there is no path defined to where the default theme should be, but when I uploaded a new theme it shows up fine both in the presentation area in admin and on the blog. To summarize what I see in my presentation area: With default; All of this theme’s files are located in /. With ShadedGrey; All of this theme’s files are located in wp-content/themes/ShadedGrey. http://marveassistans.se/wptest/
kjarrett Posted October 24, 2006 Author Posted October 24, 2006 Thanks Thomas. Does it list the "default" theme as having any problems, like, "Stylesheet Missing?" I like ShadedGrey too and use a variant of that on my personal blog. ;-) I am in the process of moving my one critical blog to my other TCH account on Server 53. If that works, perhaps a server move will address my issue. However, I am concerned that some future scheduled change to 53 will cause the problem to appear there. Again, thanks, and good morning, fellow early bird! -kj-
TCH-Thomas Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 Does it list the "default" theme as having any problems, like, "Stylesheet Missing?" No problems like that in this test installation. You could try to reopen the ticket and give them my test installation (server 365) as reference if they wanna compare server settings etc.
kjarrett Posted October 24, 2006 Author Posted October 24, 2006 Thanks Thomas. Ticket is as far as I know open. I will forward them your test installation info (they'll contact you for logon credentials I'm sure.) Meanwhile, I have the luxury of a second account here on TCH, and I moved my most critical blog there (server 53): http://www.ncs-tech.org/blogs/zoo/ All is well ... for now. I don't want to have to move all my other blogs and will be requesting a server move if this isn't resolved promptly. Clearly the problem is at TCH's end, on server 316. All I did was export the database, FTP the files over, and import the database (after a simple global search-and-replace). EVERYTHING works, including all my plugins. I guess when you run third party scripts you have to be adept at providing your own tech support. ;-) Thanks again. -kj-
kjarrett Posted October 24, 2006 Author Posted October 24, 2006 (edited) Just thought I'd add ... I have every confidence in TCH tech support, and I can't even begin to know how complex a problem this is to solve ... bottom line ... it is solvable ... it has to be! I just referred a new customer to TCH for their association (currently hosted at http://www.sshrmanj.org) ... I plan to build them a Wordpress blog ... if the server they were assigned has the same issues as 316, I wouldn't be able to deploy ... please guys, don't let me down! -kj- Edited October 24, 2006 by kjarrett
Head Guru Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 We are aware of this problem and are working on solving it. You have been a long time client and our track record speaks for itself. Please give us sometime as we work thru this issue.
ffunky Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 You can add me to the list of folks having this problem. I believe I'm on the same server. Website is www.southside-church-of-christ.org I submitted a ticket before I found this forum thread. HBW-57476 I'm really hoping you guys find an answer soon! I was going to publish the blog tomorrow on the site. -Jason
TCH-Don Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Welcome to the forums Jason Yes you are on 125. Hang in there they are working on it.
musicfrisk Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 (edited) I have no idea what server I'm on, I just know it's not as good as the one that hosts my other site. I share not only my counterpart's unresolved inflicted Wordpress pain but the servers aren't all the same pain. Ouch! Edited October 25, 2006 by musicfrisk
TCH-Bruce Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Please open a ticket if this is effecting your site and asked to be moved to another server. Anyone else with the same issure please do the same. I am closing this thread.
TCH-Andy Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 I just wanted to add that the issue is nothing to do with mod_security as has been suggested on other forums. A solution looks to have been found, and we are updating servers now. Please bear with us whilst we complete this and, as Bruce says, open a ticket if you still have issues whort while.
