Can I Block My Ip From Awstats Reporting?

TCH-Dick posted a solution for this if you have a static IP

See this thread

Thanks for the suggestion. I've implemented the changes.

However, this raises another issue. I've noticed while maintaining my Statcounter account that my TCH IP address changes fairly often.

Does TCH change our IP addresses as a security measure? A static IP address would be more manageable, but am I better off with a changing IP?

Unless the server is moved the IP will never change.

Are you sure you are not referring to your IP being assigned by your Internet provider as the one changing?

That could very well be, Bruce. I should have figured the ISP establishes the IP address.

Same question, though: Is it preferable to have a changing IP? Am I better off leaving it alone?

Unless you pay for a static IP it will continue to change. If you are not serving files from your own machine there really is no reason to have a static IP address. And if you have broadband it will change but not that frequently. Dial-up will change almost every time you dial in.

how long after editing /tmp/awstats/awstats.domain.com.conf with SkipHosts="ip.add.res.sx" and verifying 0444 permissions does it take for awstats to show revised access results exclusive of ip addresses listed in skipHosts ?

Due to the way stats are processed and stored, it will affect the daily stats starting with the first run after the change but you will not get full exclusion for this month.
