slobjones Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 I'd like to block my own IP from skewing AWStats log results, the way I can with StatCounter. Is this possible? Quote
TCH-Tim Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 In /tmp/awstats find awstats.your-domain.com.conf. Open it and find the line: SkipHosts="" Read the comments just above it for usage instructions. Add what you want to ignore and save it. Quote
TCH-Don Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 TCH-Dick posted a solution for this if you have a static IP See this thread Quote
TCH-Tim Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 I forgot to mention set permissions to 444 so it doesn't get overwritten. (Just in case you don't read Dick's post.) Quote
Steve Scrimpshire Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 I'm glad this was asked again. I was wondering the same thing, but hadn't had the time to search the forums lately. Quote
slobjones Posted September 14, 2006 Author Posted September 14, 2006 TCH-Dick posted a solution for this if you have a static IPSee this thread Thanks for the suggestion. I've implemented the changes. However, this raises another issue. I've noticed while maintaining my Statcounter account that my TCH IP address changes fairly often. Does TCH change our IP addresses as a security measure? A static IP address would be more manageable, but am I better off with a changing IP? Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 The servers ip address should not change as far as I know. Quote

Are you sure you are not referring to your IP being assigned by your Internet provider as the one changing? Quote
slobjones Posted September 14, 2006 Author Posted September 14, 2006 Unless the server is moved the IP will never change. Are you sure you are not referring to your IP being assigned by your Internet provider as the one changing? That could very well be, Bruce. I should have figured the ISP establishes the IP address. Same question, though: Is it preferable to have a changing IP? Am I better off leaving it alone? Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Unless you pay for a static IP it will continue to change. If you are not serving files from your own machine there really is no reason to have a static IP address. And if you have broadband it will change but not that frequently. Dial-up will change almost every time you dial in. Quote
deanavail Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 how long after editing /tmp/awstats/awstats.domain.com.conf with SkipHosts="ip.add.res.sx" and verifying 0444 permissions does it take for awstats to show revised access results exclusive of ip addresses listed in skipHosts ? Quote

Due to the way stats are processed and stored, it will affect the daily stats starting with the first run after the change but you will not get full exclusion for this month. Quote
