MacGirl
..I do "interview" hosting companies So, here goes: 1. How long has your company been in business? 2. What plans do you have for the future, as far as features, upgrades, etc.? 3. If I request x-feature/module, etc. will you at least look into the possibility of installing it? 4. "Stuff" does happen. What are your procedures for notifying your customers about server problems or other problems? 5. If I have a problem installing x-application, will tech support help? 6. Do you offer credit for unusual] downtimes? 7. If you could add/change one thing about your company or services, what would it be? Thanks in advance for any replies! TCH-Bruce
Welcome to the forums MacGirl 1. TCH has been in business for seven years 2. Fantastico was just added, all plans were just increased in space and bandwidth. TCH is always adding new features. 3. Just open a help desk ticket with what ever it is that you would like added and they will look into it and let you know for sure. 4. These forums. Subscribe to the server your site is hosted on and you will be notified when there are problems. You can also subscribe to a few other forums like server upgrades and maintenance forums. 5. If you have problems installing something the forums would be your first place to look for help. The help desk will help sometimes. 6. What do you consider unusual downtime? I've seen complete server rebuilds in less than 24 hours in the 3 years I've been here. But no, there are not credits for downtime. 7. I will leave that for the owner. I am happy with the service here.
MacGirl
Thanks for the quick reply, Bruce! As far as "unusual" downtime, I'd say more than a day.

TCH-Bruce
As far as "unusual" downtime, I'd say more than a day. I've been here for over three years and have never seen a server down for more than a day.
Samrc
Weclome to the forum! I have used many hosts. TCH is top notch for commitment to excellence and speed. Lets face it. All hosts use computers! And computers can have glitches! Even the best, newest equipment. All hosts will come under attack by spammers, etc. MANY hosts will not acknowledge when a server has a problem. TCH posts notices on the forum that a server is undergoing maintenance. Then while the work is being done, updates are posted. As a customer, I KNOW what is being done and how long the expected downtime will be. TCH is unusual in this regard! These forums are extensive and issues like installation of applications, coding, etc are handled here with others that have already implemented them. Hope you sign on as a family member. stevevan
Welcome to the forums! As all of the posts have stated, I think you'll be very happy here! I'm going on three years and have never regretted coming here at all!
LF from MC
7. If you could add/change one thing about your company or services, what would it be? Geez, I can't think of anything, because they already added space to all their plans. Edited July 10, 2006 by LF from MC
TCH-Tim
1. How long has your company been in business? Bill has been doing web hosting and server support for over 7 years. TCH as you see it today is about 3-4 years old. 2. What plans do you have for the future, as far as features, upgrades, etc.? We recently added Fantastico (at no extra charge) and upgraded all of our shared and reseller hosting plans (at no extra charge). We have Ruby on Rails in the works (at no extra charge) and we're still reviewing some cPanel theme add-ons (at no extra charge). We keep our hardware fresh - most of our boxes are Quad Xeons with anywhere from 2GB-4GB of RAM, some of them have RAID setups - and we like to continue adding value to our offering by increasing disk and bandwidth quotas or tossing in 3rd party add-ons. We always have secret plans churning in the background. 3. If I request x-feature/module, etc. will you at least look into the possibility of installing it? Never hurts to ask. 4. "Stuff" does happen. What are your procedures for notifying your customers about server problems or other problems? Like they said, subscribe to your server's forum. Also keep your cPanel and billing email address up to date. 5. If I have a problem installing x-application, will tech support help? Never hurts to ask. We do prefer you start here in the forums though as we don't technically provide third party software support. 6. Do you offer credit for unusual downtimes? I've never seen a server down for more than 24 hours. We constantly monitor services and server health to reduce downtime, and if a server ever does go down we're on it immediately and nobody sleeps until it is back up. 7. If you could add/change one thing about your company or services, what would it be? Once you're around for awhile, you tell me.
