chroniker
Hey guys I have returned after being away for quit some time. I only wish that my return were a happier occasion. I have an 8 yr old nephew recenthy diagnosed with cancer and I would like to put together a site the family as well as others can post their prayers, well-wishes, thoughts, their own expierences and comments but I'm not sure which way to go. My question for ya'll is, which would be the best way to go - forum, buliten board or blog? The ability to have multiple authors is a must. TCH-Thomas
First of all, I am sorry to hear about your nephew. As for the question, I would personally go with a blog (wordpress), free, simple and hopefully as spam free as possible. If you go with wordpress, I would recommend installing spam karma, it eats pretty much all of the spam that might show up.
TCH-Don
I am so sorry to hear this, for someone so young this can be very hard to handle. Blog or forum I think would work.
TCH-Tim
Our prayers and happy thoughts are with you. I'd go with Thomas' suggestion of WordPress with the SpamKarma2 plugin (it's amazing at keeping spam out). It will be very easy to post updates and news, allow family and friends to comment, and keep spam out. If you want to keep it private you can use the registration function and make people sign in. abinidi
Sorry to hear about your nephew's diagnosis. Thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. Just so you know, I set up a blog for my brother that he wanted to keep private, and in order to make it work, you have to install a WordPress plugin. The one I found is called Registered Only. When users hit the blog, the server first checks to see if they are logged in. If they are logged in, the blog loads normally. If they are not logged in, they are served with a login page. They can't see the blog's main page without being logged in. I loe WordPress. And with Fantastico on your account, it is a one-click install. Can't get better than that. I did the WP one-click install from Fantastico, then I modified the theme files to be what I wanted. Works great.

Samrc
Sorry to hear about your nephew. I would opt for the Wordpress blog also. Perfectly suited for this type of application.
chroniker
Thank you for your prayers and well wishes. I had pretty much decided that WP would be the way to go but tell me more about Fantastico, I'm not familure with it.
TCH-Thomas
Fantastico (located in your cpanel) pretty much just a library of one click installers for wordpress among other things. One thing to remember though when using the fantastico stuff is that they are usually older versions, so the best way would be to install it manually. A simple installation which takes 5-10 minutes. And there is alot of us using it, so give us a shout if you need help.
TCH-Tim
I like to install with Fantastico so it takes care of the db and config setup, and then update with patches and such. Easy cheesy.
