Welcome to the forums, Erin.

Firstly, you said you downloaded a picture off the internet... please be careful not to violate the author/publisher's copyright. Please check to make sure that picture has been released under public domain. If it is has been released under creative commons licence, please make sure you follow the terms of the licence.

The xHTML compliant code for images is as follows:

><img src="http://example.com/image.jpg" alt="alternative text" />

For more information, you can just Google for HTML tutorials... I find w3schools a good place to learn various web scripting languages.

Welcome to the forums Erin :)

Even if it's a free download site, I'd recommend copying the image to your site. If you use their site, it is stealing their bandwidth (and they might have it blocked to prevent that) and also it will load your site a lot quicker if you include it on your account.

Have you got a URL you can provide us, and we'll have a look what the issue is.

Welcome to the forums. You don't mention it, but you said you only downloaded a picture from the internet...have you loaded the picture onto your site? As Andy said, it's best if done that way to avoid bandwidth issues.

Not on the Internet? Well we'll have to get you all sorted out then, won't we?

To have your site available on the Internet you will need to buy a domain name and a hosting account where you host this domain name. You would upload your files from your PC to the server where your hosting account lives, and then everybody can get to your site by typing in the domain name. The good folks here in the forums would be glad to help you out with the upload/setup process if you have any questions.

You can prepay your domain name anywhere from one year to twelve years (maybe more). Hosting accounts can be paid monthly, quarterly, or annually. Both can be set to automatically renew or not. There are no hidden fees outside of those two.

A good place to buy both a domain name and a hosting account would be right here at TCH, of course. Click here to check out some of our plans, and there's also a link on that page to purchase a domain name.

If you need any help, please feel free to let one of us know.

And welcome to the forums. :)

Ah... no wonder. Well, like Tim said, you can get both domain name and hosting account here at TCH.

I would hazard a guess that you have the most basic requirements for your website, so probably a Starter Plan would do. You can always upgrade as needs arise.

If you have any problems with setting up your website here, just give us a shout! :)

Well, they would, but in the web hosting business, you get what you pay for. I'm sure many others will chime in, but speaking from experience, you will not find a host with better support and reliability than TCH. That is why I came here and I'm not leaving anytime soon. And as chatbug said, if you find you need more space, you can always upgrade. I think you'll find that the reliability of TCH will stack up quite well against nearly all competitors.

thank you for the advice..i think $44 is a bit much right now...i seen some for $10 to $15 wouldnt they do the same...

44.00 for a year is very reasonable. I'm not sure where you're looking that you would only pay $15.00

I've been with several other webhosts (not for years, thank goodness!), but none of them compare to TCH :tchrocks:

Welcome to the forum and hopefully the family too! tch_wel.gif

At less than $4/mo if you pay for a year at a time, it is a terrific value, cost-wsie.

And the support on this forum is priceless!

Like others, I have used many hosts. TCH is in a class of it's own.

Once you have your domain name, and a hosted webspace to go with it, you will need to upload (send) your files to the website so other people can see them. That's easy! You can use a free program to do that. Thomas has posted a list of FTP program that can be used to upload your files to the website. Some tutorials are also shown on how to use them.

Let us know when you have your account and we will help you load your pages and images!
