OldTimer
Hi folks What are the pros and cons of the using gzip? I know it reduces bandwidth, but I've read that it slows down the servers (higher load)? So what is TCH feelings on using it on a shared host account. Thanks Greg
TCH-JimE
Hello, Gzip compresses the page so that it arrives at your client faster. The load on the server is minimal. I can't think of a con! If you can enable it, like for forums, enable it, you will be surprised of the bandwidth you will save. JimE
OldTimer
Thank You Jim Yeah I was aware of the bandwidth savings, just wanted to double check in regards to the server load. Using a small bit of code and adding 2 lines to the .htaccess file gave a reduction of 75%, lighting fast too. Thanks again Greg
